Thermal Belt
Friendship Council
On cooperation with
Isothermal Community College,
the Thermal Belt Friendship
Council will jointly celebrate
Martin Luther King's birthday on
Jan. 21, 7 p.m. This year's event
will be held in the beautiful
auditorium of the new Isothermal
College. Polk County campus.
The program includes a two
act play “Roads of the
Mountaintop.*' It is a -story of
Kings life from the time he
received the Noble Prize, till the
end of his life. Players will be
from our community as well as
Rutherford County. The Gospel
Choir from Spindale Campus will
be offering some delightful and
moving choices of music.
For the first time. Martin
Luther King awards will be
presented to two high school
youths in Polk County that have
displayed a leadership role in
“contribution for friendship and
harmony."
Following the performance,
refreshments will be served.
Members of the council will
delight one and all with their
display of home made desserts.
Admission is free, please come.

Rotary Today
Dr. John Stevenson, a Dana
professor of English at Converse
College, will speak at Rotary.
Monday. Jan. 7. His topic is “The
Underside of Language.”
Rutherford Man Shot
After Kicking In Door
A Rutherford County man was
shot in the left thigh when he
stormed into the house of a
Columbus man Thursday night.
Sheriff's Chief Deputy Calvin
Atkins reported Friday.
Billy Junior Bradley, a white
male. 25 years old. was
reportedly banging on the door of
Gary Hannon's Gulley Street
residence at 6:15 p.m. Thursday
night.
“Gary opened the door and
then slammed it back shut,
saying he was not welcome.”
Atkins said. “Apparently these
two had some fight going on."
Atkins said while Bradley
continued banging on Hannon’s
door. Hannon retrieved a .22
calibre pistol from a dresser
drawer.
“Hannon’s wife called out to
Bradley to go away, that her
husband had a gun," Atkins said.
“But Bradley kicked the door
open and came in saying, ‘Shoot
me.' And Hannon did."
Bradley was reportedly to be in
stable condition at St. Luke's
Hospital. Atkins said he may
even be released on Friday.
While the matter is still being
investigated. Atkins said he
doesn’t believe any charges will
be filed in the case.

Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Western
Steer Steak House in Columbus.

The Mill Spring Ruritan Club
will be having its charter
membership night, Tuesday.
January 8 at 6:30 p.m at Mill
Spring Elementary School.
This is an opportunity for all
Mill Spring residents to become
charter members of Ruritan.
Ruritan is a civic service
organization. It's purpose is to
create a better understanding
between people and through
volunteer community service.

“Anatomy of a Murder”
On January 10 at 8 p.m.
“Anatomy of a Murder” will be
the Tryon Film Club's
presentation at the Fine Arts
Center. The film’s stellar cast is
headed by James Stewart. Lee
Remic. Ben Gazzara. Arthur
O’Connell, Eve Arden and Geor
C. Scott. Shot, recorded and
processed on location in
Michigan, ‘“Anatomy" contains
some of the most remembered
trial scenes in movie history.
Scott is the smug and
