The weather Tuesday: high 45,
low 35, hum. 80 percent, and .10
inches of rain fell.
The Carolina Camera Club was
treated Tuesday night to a
showing of Davis Kirby’s slide
show, “My Tryon.” With
photographs taken “in fits and
starts” over a decade, Kirby
leads viewers over the seasons
and through the woods, to his
house and to mountaintops.
It was interesting to me, one
whose view each day is of a
computer screen more often than
a tree or flower, to note the high
percentage of the show which
was devoted to nature and out-of-
doors pursuits — hikes to collect
boxwood bows for Christmas
from the old Ryx Haven property
below Tryon Peak, hikes up
Rocky Spur, or into Pisgah
National Forest to “plant”
fingerling trout in sparkling
streams.
The flora of these Southern
mountains were another main
theme in Kirby’s Tryon. And the
Bulletin was featured as the
string which ties all these
mountain hideaways together.

Horse Insurance
During last year’s horse
seminar the subject of liability
laws that affect horse owners
surfaced. It seemed like a major
concern to many of the
participants. Unfortunately, we
were not equipped to answer
these questions, although Dr. Bob
Mowery, NCSU Equine
Specialist, did help us understand
the magnitude of this problem.
In this day-in-age of lawsuits,
we all would like to know where
we stand in case of trouble. II is
important to be responsible horse
producers in that we try to
prevent potential trouble. But no
matter the “ounce of prevention”
that potentially damaging
“pound of trouble” weighs
heavily on our mind!
As you are probably aware of
from past articles, the 1991
Foothills Regional Horse
Seminar on January 17 and 18
does plan to address the subject
of “Liability Laws Affecting
Horse Owners” to be presented
by Nathan Garren, Attorney At
