First Union Corp, has been the subject of some speculation in the area since it announced the withdrawal of its loan com mitment for Tryon Estates. The company, however, reported an increase in net income from $256 million last year to $272 million this year, a six percent increase. Preston, 22, has just been called back into the service. He reports for duty on February 20. He is the son of Frances Lytle and step-son of Bill Lytle. Tiffany Nicole McDowell to Phillip Michael Messer of Landrum. Ms. McDowell is the niece of Jcarl and Sandra McDowell of Columbus, and is a graduate of Polk Central High School. She is currently employed at JJ's Restaurant in Landrum, and is a student at Isothermal Commu nity College in Columbus. Mr. Messer, the son of Fred and Leota Messer of Landrum, is a graduate from Landrum High School and is currently employed with Denton Foy Construction. The couple will be married on May 4 at the Mimosa Inn in Tryon. 20C Per Cops Estates Delayed To January 1992 About 150 future residents of Tryon Estates heard the news from ACTS Inc. top corporate officers in person Friday: the project will go forward, but likely will be delayed - again - until January 1992. Tire chairman of ACTS Inc., the Rev. Richard Coons, was among a group of six corporate officers who tried to assuage the fears of future residents during a two-hour meeting al the Tryon Fine Arts Center Friday morning. Residents became concerned recently after they saw con struction halted and announce ments were made that construc tion financing arrangements with First Union National Bank had fallen through. On Friday, they were told that another financing deal is nearly completed, and that construction should begin again in earnest by May 1. "We arc well along in the process of raising the money," W. Scott Warren, the managing director of Philadelphia First Group Inc. of Conshohocken, Pa. told a reporter Monday. Philadelphia First is an investment banking firm hired by ACTS as a financial advi sor.
