The Tryon Hounds will meet Saturday at 9 a.m. at Iron Bridge. Waynesville Mountaineer writer Ken Morrison offered "A Rose to Polk County," in his column Monday. "Many states have a Polk County, but the one I am prais ing is here in North Carolina. Its county commission voted unanimously to place a one- year moratorium on billboards while a new sign ordinance is drafted. Many more counties should take similar action before visual pollution is in such an advanced state that it will be too costly to deal with." The Polk County Planning and Zoning Board deserves much of that praise, along with both the county commissioners presently serving and those who recently (Continued On Back Page) Subscription Rates Hiked For Postage Due to the recent increase in second class postal rates, which arc now nearly 20 percent higher than before, the Tryon Daily Bulletin subscription rates have been increased, editor and publisher Jeffrey A. Byrd announced today. A yearly subscription will now cost $35, up from $30. The increase represents 42 cents a month. A six-month subscription will now cost $19.25, a three-month subscription $11, and a one- month subscription, $4.50. "We will continue to do our best to assemble the wealth of news and advertising informa tion that you find in the Bulletin each day," said Byrd, "So that the extra few cents each month for your subscription will be returned to you in value, several times over." Williams of Landrum announce the engagement of their daughter, Susanne Annette, to Joe Perry Johnson III. Johnson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Perry Johnson of Inman. He is a graduate of Soiling Springs High School and Wofford College, where he earned a Bachelor's in Business Economics. He is employed as vice-president of High Tech Heat Inc. Susanne is a graduate of Lan drum High School and the Uni versity of South Carolina at Columbia, where she earned a Bachelor's in Psychology. She is now employed by Greenville Memorial Hospital. Vining To Gather Farming History Polk County Extension Director John Vining is gather ing photographs of Polk's agri cultural heritage. Vining has agreed to serve on a committee of Tryon-Thermal Belt Chamber of Commerce members who arc publishing a pictorial history of the area. Anyone with photographs of farming, logging, and other agricultural pursuits, from times past up until the present, should call John at the extension office, 894-8218, or drop them by the office at the courthouse com plex. John is being assisted by for mer county director Paul Cul berson. "A Sense of Heritage: A Pic torial History of the Thermal Belt Area," will be published in the fall.
