We heard recently from the cool, breezy Fisher Island, Fla., where Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bandler are languishing while we swelter. There the newspa per of record, The Miami Herald, of course, is writing about how nice it is to visit in the Asheville area! Richard Bandler sent along a clipping in which the writer traces the literary steps of Tho mas Wolfe, Carl Sandburg and the Flat Rock Playhouse. It's true that we always think the grass is greener. "Anything can happen and probably will," said commis sioner Tim McCormack of any proposals included in the work ing budget. Legally the county commis sioners cannot formally approve anything decided on in the bud get sessions, McCormack explained. In addition, any thing decided during the budget session can change from day to day and even minute to minute, he said. By law, any approval voiced by the commissioners during such a budget work session is not official, he pointed out. Official approval of the 1991-92 county budget will not come until after the June 17 6 p.m. public hearing on the bud get, McCormack said. Depending on the length of the public hearing, the commis sioners will either give final approval to the budget in open session immediately following the hearing or they will set a special meeting prior to July 1, McCormack said. After coming up with a design they each built a scale model of their designs. Once the bridges were completed the students tested their bridges for efficiency by hanging weights from them. They added weights until the bridge collapsed. First place was awarded to Keith Nelon. Jesse Juenger won second place. The tie for third place was between Chad Bailey and Chad Edwards. Cash prizes were donated by Holland Brady, Anton Cedervall and Ralph Sherer, who are all local architects.“Students learned a great deal about designing processes and developing efficient designs.
