Pug Newcomer is back in
Osceola - that's Nebraska -
which about this time of year
should be one beautiful place to
be - cool, Canadian breezes and
people who talk funny to hang
out with.
Pug lives in Columbus part of
the year, but goes back to
Osceola each spring before the
South Carolina mosquitos
hatch.
He's been pretty impressed
with a local elementary school
principal. This guy, Allen Bro-
zovsky (that's a fairly common
last name up there, by the way)
challenged his students to read
books. If they read enough, he
said, he'd kiss a pig.
Well, guess what. That old
Nebraska passtime - pig kissin'
- came to pass. Don't worry. It
was sanitary. Both the principal
and the pig wore hats.

Congregational
Church Observes
Ministry Sunday
Ministry Sunday was
observed at the Congregational
Church on June 2, another of
the special events in connection
with the church's year-long
Centennial observance.
During the sen ice the church
honored its Minister Emeritus,
the Rev. Richard Jackson, for
the 50th Anniversary of his
ordination in 1941. Mr. Jackson
served as minister of the con
gregation from 1973 to 1983.
Although retired, he and his
wife, Dorothy, are still active
members. A certificate in rec
ognition of that anniversary was
presented by Mrs. Marge
Woody, the church's Senior
Deacon. Following the service,
during a reception hosted by the
Board of Deacons, an original
poem was read by Skip Morse,
and a gift was presented
accompanied by a humorous
The sermon was delivered by
the Rev. Dr. Rollin Russell, the
Conference Minister of the
Southern Conference of the
United Church of Christ.
A listing of clergy who have
been related to the church dur
ing the past century was dis
tributed, as was a booklet with
sermons by 15 ministers who
have been associated with the
church during the past half cen
tury.
Other participants in the ser
vice included the Rev. Dr.
