The weather Thursday: high

and by 7 a.m. Friday .14 inches
of rain had fallen.
We had a debate going on
Friday morning about the
tree, located between the post
office and NCNB bank in
Tryon, that's scheduled to be cut
down soon. Whether hickory or
oak, it is dying.
Robert Dcdmondt says its
been a hickory for the last half
century. Others say there's no
way its a hickory.
Everyone says, "Call, John."
And because that's what every
one usually does, our county
extension director was tied up at
presstime, so the mystery con

We also had a discussion with
some Lake Lanier residents
about the continuing concerns
regarding the height of boat

Blood Drive
Bart Greene, director of the
Spartanburg Blood Bank, will
climb into a cherry picker's
bucket and be hoisted aloft
Thursday.
He'll stay there until 350
blood donors visit the blood
bank offices below, at 175
Dunbar Street, sometime bet
ween 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
"I hope I'll be down by 3 or 4
p.m.," he said. "But we've never
had that many donors."
Each year at this time, the
blood bank holds a drive to
promote donations and to
promote awareness of the need
to keep up blood supplies dur
ing the summer.
During summer, donations
slump, while travel, yard work
and the like increase trauma
cases and drain the supplies of
blood, Greene said.
