We had a debate going on Friday morning about the tree, located between the post office and NCNB bank in Tryon, that's scheduled to be cut down soon. Whether hickory or oak, it is dying. Robert Dcdmondt says its been a hickory for the last half century. Others say there's no way its a hickory. Everyone says, "Call, John." And because that's what every one usually does, our county extension director was tied up at presstime, so the mystery con tinues. We also had a discussion with some Lake Lanier residents about the continuing concerns regarding the height of boat houses. Last year, when Tryon first stepped into the fray and decided to regulate construction over the water, it was lake property owners, not lake residents, who opposed limiting the height of boat houses. He'll stay there until 350 blood donors visit the blood bank offices below, at 175 Dunbar Street, sometime bet ween 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. "I hope I'll be down by 3 or 4 p.m.," he said. "But we've never had that many donors." Each year at this time, the blood bank holds a drive to promote donations and to promote awareness of the need to keep up blood supplies dur ing the summer. During summer, donations slump, while travel, yard work and the like increase trauma cases and drain the supplies of blood, Greene said. During this five week pro gram she will be studying the development of Religion as well as current Global Issues. Shawn was one of 250 students accepted to the School out of 500 who applied. She is a rising senior at Landrum High School where she is a member of the Beta Club, Interact Club, Science Club, Student Council, Captain of the Color Guard in the Distinctive Regiment Band and will serve as secretary/ treasurer of the Senior Class next year. The council will have the sec ond reading on an ordinance to alter the zoning map regarding the property of Nelle B. Lee on North Shamrock Avenue. Tire fire department budget and the water tank at the filter plant also will be discussed. The council will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the Landrum City Hall. Clarification The Polk County property transfers as recorded in the tax supervisor's office list only the first name in cases where there are several grantors or grantees.
