according to a recent story in
the Omaha (Neb.) World-
Herald sent to us by Pug New-
comer.
Pug lives in Columbus part of
the year, returning summers to
his native Polk County,
Nebraska.
"...Just so you can be up-to-
date on the profitable "pig-pet"
market in Nebraska and the
USA at large," Newcomer
wrote. "Despite some low-land
flooding in recent weeks, this
Polk County is poised to again
enjoy excellent yields in com,
milo and soy-beans.
"Harriett and I certainly enjoy
receiving the Daily Bulletin.
Reading it makes us all the
more eager for October and our
return to the Poll; County of our
adoption since 1983."

One Woman Art Show
Mary Walker of Johns Island,
S.C., will have a solo exhibition
at the Tryon Fine Arts Center
starting Sunday, August 4.
Mary and her mother had a
show together at the Tryon Fine
Arts Center in 1979. Mary's
parents lived in Tryon and she
grew up here. Her mother,
Cynthia Maroney, lives near the
TFAC.
Mary has exhibited in many
shows in South Carolina
throughout her career. She is a
graduate of Queens College,
Charlotte, N.C., with a B.A.
degree in mathematics. She was
a math teacher from 1968-75.
In 1975 she became a full-time
artist. At present she is repre
sented by the David Hamilton
Gallery in Charleston, S.C.
There will be a reception
honoring Mary at the TFAC on
August 4 from 3 to 5 p.m.
Lavina McDanield is chairman
of the reception with Gloria
Hampton as co-chairman. The
public is invited to the art show
and reception.

71st Wedding
Anniversary
Stanley and Ursalene Blome
ley, members of the Tryon
Seventh-day Adventist Church,
celebrated their 71st wedding
anniversary on June 19.
The Blomcleys have three
sons, 12 grandchildren, 17
great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren. The
third member of their household
at present is "Doc", their 33
year old parrot.
The Blomcleys would love
hearing fonn old friends. Their

Dear Jeff:
A letter in Tuesday's Bulle
tin about the Tryon Youth
Center Production of Grease
had some interesting comments.
I too witnessed the dress
rehearsal on Wednesday. I
thank God daily that my kids
who grew up during that era
were not a problem to me. They
rebelled as all kids do. They
weren't perfect by any stretch of
the imagination. They didn't go
the drug route. They drank
some and smoked and swore.
Although they were never
caught. I'm not sure that they
didn't experiment with sex.
All these things were
portrayed on stage and I
didn't like it. I told my wife
that I was glad that none of
my children were in the
cast. However, this might
be because I was looking into
the mirror of years past. During
my school years everything that
the actors did on stage, or talked
about on stage, was done
(except drugs).
My views on the show itself...
we should use their actions and
words to help us improve our
children's attitudes. What was
gained by swearing, drinking,
taking drugs, smoking or
experimenting with sex? I felt
for the prim and proper girl and
the way she was treated. My
heart went out to the one who
thought she was pregnant. Both
of them needed a parent who
could counsel and guide them.
Of course I could commiserate
