The weather Monday, high
71, low 66, hum. 72 percent and
2.37 inches of rain fell. By 7
a.m. Tuesday, another .15
inches of rain had fallen.
Tuxedo residents are taking
home momentos from Tryon
these days - post office boxes.
The Postal Service had to
close down the Tuxedo post
office suddenly Aug. 7 due to
serious electrical problems in
the building. Residents must
now drive to Zirconia.
But when the postal service
began removing the Tuxedo
post office boxes, Ernie Boys
objected. Those boxes were
purchased by his father some 40
years ago from the Tryon Post
Office.
The post office let Boys keep
the boxes, and he has been giv
ing away the box doors to the
persons who leased them.
On to lunch: We have had
several calls in the last few days
from parents wondering when
we're going to print the school
lunch menus.
(For those of you who don't
share this reading pleasure, let
us explain. If the cafeteria is
planning spinach and cauli
flower pizzas, Mom has to pack
a lunch. If it's chicken nuggets

Fruits Of Labor
At The T.C.C.
There will be a mixed four-
some golf tournament followed
by a cocktail party on Labor
Day, Monday, Sept. 2 at the
Tryon Country Club for mem
bers and their guests, so every
one can rest on their laurels
after a hard summer of laboring
in the vineyards.
The mixed foursome golf
tournament will be at 9 holes
with full handicaps, a team to
consist of one couple. There
will be prizes for all so get
signed up.
Following the tournament
there will be a BYOB cocktail
part at the club from 4 to 6 p.m.
with mixers and snakes pro
vided.

Deputy Investigates
Equipment Vandalism
Sgt. James Carter of the Polk
County Sheriffs Department
was investigating vandalism
Tuesday morning.
Apparently vandals disturbed
the road construction equipment
in Green River Cove. The
equipment was being used to
repair the bridge near Bradley
falls which washed out in
heavy rains July 31.
Closed Monday
Landrum Branch of the Spar
tanburg County Library will be
closed Monday, Sept. 2, for
Labor Day.

Casey Culbreth, daughter of
Dean and Rita Culbreth of
Green Creek was crowned Little
Miss Polk County on July 4th
in Columbus.
Casey is two years old.

Senior Championship
At The Tryon C.C.
The Senior Championship for
those 55 and over will be held
at the Tryon Country Club
beginning the week of Septem
ber 3rd and continuing through
the third week of the month.
This will be a match play
event at 18 holes without han
dicaps. This tournament is to
show what the semi-old fellows
can really do without the aid of
handicaps.
Get signed up early for this
challenging event, and may the
best man win.

Run At Summerfest
Wolverine runner Set Peoples
and Coach Alan Peoples com
bined training and family fun at
Summerfest in York, S.C. on
Saturday, Aug. 24. While visit
ing with the D.W. Shuler fam
ily, they participated in the 5K
Summer Run. They were joined
in the competition by their niece
and cousin, Harriet Shuler, a
recent participant in the
regional Junior Olympics meet.
Seth completed the 5K in
17:52, winning first place in his
age group and placing 12th
overall. Coach Peoples finished
4th in his age group with a
22:09. Harriet Shuler completed
her one-mile run in 9:05 and
placed 3rd in her age division.
Robbie McFarland of Colum
bus also attended the Summer
Run with the USC-S cross
country team. As a result of
recent illness, McFarland did
not compete.

The Red Fox Womens Golf
Assoc. Two-Day ringer Tour
nament, held on Thurs., Aug. 15
and 22, winners are: Class A,
Nan Holden with a net 67. Class
B, Anne McIntyre a net 65.
Class C, Carolyn Pierce net 63
and Class D, Sheila Umlauf
with a net 62.
