A mysterious sect was uncov
ered in Polk County back in
early August. Those of you who
were paying attention will
remember that during William
Woody's surprise (43rd) birth
day party, it was revealed that
he is a member of the "well
dwellers" society.
Aha! It is now known that
this Polk County version of the
Skull and Bones has been oper
ating here for over three
decades!
But once again, The Bulletin
scores a major scoop. Today we
bring the gory details to light.
Today, all of Polk County can
breath just a little bit easier.
The expose is right here on the
front page. Read it, if you dare.
And then there's that other
mystery - just who is I.R.
Tiiompson? He's I.R. Thomp
son like I.R. Byrd and U.R
Smith!
This stealthy letter writer has
been nipping at the heels of the

'Well Dwellers' Never Forget
by Tim Brannon
On a cold, damp day in
December, eight boys huddled
together in an 8x10 abandoned
spring house. We swore loyalty
to the club, and each other using
a curse word we had heard, but
were not allowed to utter
around adults. "Boulder Dam,
leave off the Boulder", one
member said to the snickers of
others. A little timid, some
thought, but adequate for initia
tion.
So began the Well Dwellers
an apt name originated by one
member as we worked to put a
roof over the little spring house.
The old roof had deteriorated
years before, but the concrete

fall, we had lugged old gates

half-mile. Roof "framing" in
place, we lovingly covered the
boards with tar paper donated
by a grandmother. Inside, we
sat several feet below ground
level, but on tens of years of
soft decaying wood and leaves.
Tables and benches were made
from wooden Coca-Cola crates
put together for us by Clark
Wood. Light came through two
