Columbus Annexes
And Rezones
Searcy Property
The Columbus Town Council
upped its tax revenue Thursday
by just over $220 annually after
annexing and rezoning property
owned by Sam Searcy.
One third of the 7.13-acre
Searcy tract is already inside the
town borders. The tract is
located across from the Polk
County Campus of ICC on
Highway 108 and bordered on
the Columbus side by property
owned by J. Wakefield. The
annexation brings the entire
tract into Columbus, and there
fore, makes it subject to all
town ordinances.
The Columbus Town Council
voted unanimously to rezone
the property Highway Com
mercial (HC) 400 feet back
from Highway 108 and to
leave the back side of the pro-
erty zoned R-2, residential.
The only change is that the
county had the back Highway
Commercial, town attorney
Chris Callahan said.
The town told Searcy he will
have to remove the sign adver
tising Columbus Health Call
Pharmacy and Kelly's Gift
Shop.
When asked if he still wanted
the property annexed if he had
to move the sign, Searcy said
that he hated to be made to do
anything, but if he had a certain
amount of time, he would
remove the sign.
