The weather Monday, high
84, low 59, hum. 73 percent.
A friend stopped by Monday
and asked if we would help him
find a companion. Now we
don't usually run personals in
the Bulletin, but the depths of
emotion displayed by this sen
sitive, 90s sort of guy persuaded
us. Here is his heartfelt plea:
"Wanted: Good woman. Must
be able to clean, cook, sew, dig
worms and clean fish. Must
have boat and motor. Please
send picture of boat and motor."

The Polk County Board of
Commissioners were to meet
this morning in executive ses
sion to discuss the management
of the E-911 communications
center.
What's happening:
Tickets for the Arthur Farwell
Day luncheon, to be held at The
Vineyard Sept. 21, arc on sale
at NCNB.
There will be another training
session for the Stream Watch
program Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
at the FENCE pond. The last
was well-attended, and Polk
County's streams should soon
be under proper care.

Peoples Leads
Polk To Win
The Wolverine men's cross
country team attended its first
meet of the season on August
28 and emerged the victor from
a field of five teams. Scoring
26 points, Polk County was
followed by AC Reynolds,
Erwin, Asheville and East Hen
derson.
The meet's first place finisher
was Polk runner Seth Peoples.
He was joined in the top twen
ty-five by Chad Lanford 3rd,
Rob Phillips, 4th, Jason Denton,
7th, Scott Culbreth, 11th, Erie
Baumburger, 17th, and Larry
Feagan, 21st.
Other varsity runners partici
pating were Brendan Palmer,
Tommy Thomas, Anthony
Womack, Charlie Culbreth,
Zeke Graves, Ethan Shulman,
and Clint Lawrence.
The junior high runners par
ticipated in a two-mile training
run. This group consisted of
Mike Barnes, John Sojstrom,
and Kevin Williams.
Coach Alan Peoples said he
and the team were "exceedingly
pleased" with their first meet.
Peoples further stated that sev
eral runners had returned from
summer vacation in good shape
from summer jobs and working
out. "You can easily spot those
who have maintained their
strength and stamina. I was
particularly pleased with Chad
Lanford and Seth Peoples, and
Rob Phillips has been a pleasant
surprise. He should make an
important contribution this
year."
Caroline Greene
Selected For
Who's Who
Wendy Caroline Greene,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry
C. Greene of Landrum was
selected to be included in the
25th Annual Edition of Who's
Who Among American High
School Students. Caroline is a
1991 graduate of Landrum High
School.
While in high school, she
participated in tennis, basket-
ball, and track. She was a
member of various school clubs
and was a Senior Superlative.
She is a member of Landrum
First Baptist Church where she
has been active in the youth
group and handbell choir.
Caroline is currently a fresh
man at the College of Charles
ton in Charleston, S.C.

Wolverine Football
Polk County evened its record
to 1-1 Friday night with a 34-0
rout of Landrum.
After receiving the opening
kickoff, Landrum was forced to
punt on 4th down. Gaverick
Carson fielded the punt on the
Landrum 45 yd. line, returned
to for a touchdown, but a clip
ping penalty nullified the score.
Polk County started its first
drive on their own 43 yd. line.
After picking up three first
downs, the Wolverines turned it
over on downs at the Cardinal
19 yd. line. Landrum failed to
pick up a first down and Polk
County returned the punt to the
Landrum 32. On 3rd and 7,
Kevin Davis picked up the first
down. A Landrum penalty
moved the ball to the 12 yd
line. On 3rd and 11, Kip Stokes
ran a bootleg left and passed to
Otis Miller for the TD. The two
point conversion failed and
Polk County went ahead 6-0
with 2:47 left in the first quar
ter. Neither team generated any
offense on their next series of
downs.
The Wolverine's first posses
sion of the second quarter
started on their own 27. A 5 yd
penalty against Polk County
and a 15 yd. penalty against
Landrum made it 1st and 10 on
the 37. After two plays gained
no yardage, Sean Cunningham
took a quick pitch left all the
way for a TD. The 2 pt. conver
sion made it 14-0 with 7:42 left
in the second quarter.
