N C 28782 Cars Collide Near A&P On Hwy. 176 Tryon Police Office Gail Nonamaker investigated an accident near the Tryon A&P grocery story Friday at 4:53 p.m. According to the police report, Bonita Baker Peterson was driving a 1968 Mercury out of the A&P parking lot when she struck the 1983 Toyota driven by Johnny Bell Mullins of Landrum. Peterson apparently pulled out before Mullins had completed his turn into the parking lot, causing the collision. Peterson was charged with a safe movement violation. Landrum Test Scores Go Home Wed. Landrum High School will be sending BSAP and Exit Exam score reports home on Wed., Sept. 18. Parents with questions concerning the test reports should contact the school and set up a conference time. —Community Reporter Foothills Bridge Results of Foothills Duplicate Bridge played on Thurs., Sept. 12 at The Tryon Youth Center are: 1, Dick Long and Joe Doti, 2, Jean Stratford and Katherine Glunz, 3, Julia Davis and Andrew Leslie. —Community Reporter TUESDAY, SEPT. 17,1991 George Finnie Designs Sets For 'Fiddler' George Finnie, well known here as a set designer and artist, is designing the sets for Fiddler on the Roof, the musical that Tryon Little Theater will pre sent at the Fine Arts Center September 26-29. The action in the play takes place in Anatevka, a fictitious little village in Russia around 1905, on the eve of the revolu tionary period. Finnie's scenic design has been compared favorably with that of the pictu resque styles of the tiny Russian villages made famous in the paintings of Marc Chagall. Commenting on the sets being constructed on stage, Finnic says, "I continue to be amazed at the ingenuity of the set con struction crew headed by John Young, including Bob Thomas, Bob Beam, Fred Minard, Mark (Continued On Back Page) 12 Pages Today 20C Per ops Godlock Sets New Record The Polk County Lady Wolverines Cross Country Track Team traveled to Boone Sat., Sept. 14 to take part in the ASLI Cross Country Carnival. Out of 8 teams. PC placed 2nd. In Flight 1, Karen Godlock finished first with a time of 11:37.14 which set a new course record. Rhonda Burnett also participated, 17:29. Flight 2, Jenny McGrane, 3rd, 13:40; Jennifer McConnell 16:26. Flight 3, Pat McEntyrc, 4th, 14:15; Jennifer Owens, 18:10. Flight 4, Sarah Fitzsimmons, 4th, 14:43. Flight 5, Natalie Jackson, 4th, 14:50- Carey Metcalf 18:06, Marta Burnett 18:26. PC also finished 2nd overall in a 2 mile relay race.
