The Brannons have sold The
Vineyard Restaurant. The new
owner is Ernie Barham, a retiree
from Miami Beach, Fla.
Ernie was not available for
comment Wednesday, but Doug
Brannon reports that the closing
is taking place in two parts.
The first closing was held
two weeks ago. The final clos
ing will be held in October.
Brannon said he believes
Barham plans to open the res
taurant Nov. ].
"He plans to ease into that,"
Brannon said. "He has to hire
an entire staff."

ents of a son, Wayne Brackett,
born on Tues., Sept. 17, at
Spartanburg Regional Medical
Center, Spartanburg, S.C.
He weighed 7 lbs., 2 oz. and
19 1/2 inches long.
Maternal grandmother is
Alice Levi of Orlando, Florida.
Paternal grandmother is Mrs.
Wayne Hunt of Gaffney, S.C.
Landrum Petition
Drive Can Force
Question On Ballot
A petition drive to require a
public vote on the question of
expanding the size of Lan
drum's Town Council has
enough signatures.
Councilman Doug Brannon,
who favors expansion, said
Wednesday that 160 persons
have signed the petition,
roughly 15 percent of Lan
drum's 1,089 registered voters.
S.C. law requires at least 15
percent of a jurisdiction's regis
tered voters on a petition before
requiring a public referendum
vote.
The petitioners are seeking to
have the public vote on whether
to enlarge the town council
from four to six members. The
present council had voted in
August to put the matter on the
ballot in November. But by a
3-2 vote last week decided to
take the matter back off the
ballot.
Brannon has argued that a

Pam McNeil Thompson is

26-29. Pam is serving as Music
Director, her fourth such
assignment for TLT, her others
being Call Me Madam, Some
thing's Afoot ami High Spirits.
Pam is enthusiastic about
Fiddler. She says, "the tunes are
unassuming, yet ingratiating.
They dramatize with feeling the
lives of Tevye and other dwel
lers in Anatevka." She goes on
to say that of the songs, some
arc comic, others poignant, such
as the devout Sabbath Prayer,
and the gentle Sunrise, Sunset
that marks the flight of years,
the growing-up of children.
Tickets are still available.

Driver's License
Office Now Open
Wednesdays Only
The N.C. Division of Motor
Vehicles driver's license office
in Columbus is now open
Wednesdays only.
The branch office was open
Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but
hours were cut due to state
budget cutbacks, Sgt. Mary
June Pate announced this week.
The Columbus office, located
beneath the county jail, will be
open from 8:15 a.m. to 4:45
p.m.
On other days, persons need
ing license office service can
either visit the Hendersonville
or Forest City license offices.
Both are open from 8 a.m. to 5
p.m. Monday through Friday,
but Pate said the office is
sometimes unable to serve
people who arrive after 4 p.m.
before closing time.
The Hendersonville office is
located on Hwy. 25 North at
Baystone Drive. Phone

The Forest City office is
located on Hwy. 74 Bypass,
across from Isothermal Com
munity College, below the
Wal-Mart.
