Hunters Say Law
Just Passed Covers
County's Concerns
A new state law which took
effect Oct. 1 should make Polk
County's controversial firearms
ordinance unnecessary, Steve
Christopher said Thursday.
Christopher and Dr. Jack
Frasher, both of Green Creek,
will represent hunters point of

the county commissioners

A sheriffs deputy, a county
resident affected by hunters,
and State Wildlife Officer
Johnny Blanton will also attend
that workshop.
Christopher and Frasher were
with a dozen hunters who com

September about the firearms
ordinance they passed in
August. The hunters said the
ordinance, which prohibits fir
ing guns within certain dis

other people, duplicates existing
laws and is unenforceable.
Since that meeting, Chris
topher said he has been resear

learned of a new state law
which took effect Oct. 1, called
the "negligent firearms law."
Christopher said even State
Wildlife Officer Johnny Blan

law, which was only ratified
