The sale of Red Fox Country
Club is moving forward, but
likely won't be completed
before the first of 1992.
Alan McCain, the proposed
buyer, said he guesses closing
will occur around April 1992.
McCain owns the Green Park
Inn and Golf Course in Blowing
Rock.
Contracts were signed in
July. The delay is due to the
fact that the Resolution Trust
Corp., the savings and loan
bailout agency, is swamped
with work, McCain said.
"They have a huge inventory
of product to sell. I am not
blaming them. They arc polite,
■courteous. They return phone
calls," he said.
McCain said as far as he's
concerned there is no rush to
close now that the golf season is
over. He has already been
working at Red Fox, meeting
with members and homeown

Columbus Man
Hit By Truck
Burnice Luther of Columbus
died of injuries received when
he was hit by a truck early
Monday morning in Spartan
burg.
Polk County Sheriff Boyce
Carswell said his office had
talked with Spartanburg offi
cials Monday morning.
Apparently, Luther had
parked his car at a service sta
tion where he met a ride for the
commute to his work in
Greenville. He was walking
across the street when he was
hit by the truck.
The truck did not stop.
Carswell said, adding that it is
possible the truck driver was
not aware he had hit anything.

Wolverine Football
The Polk County Wolverine
football team put some points
on the board Friday night and
beat Edneyville 35-18 before a
large homecoming crowd.
The Wolverines received the
opening kickoff on their 10 yd.
line and returned it to the 23.
They picked up a first down on
the 36 but Edneyville recovered
a fumble and took over on the
Polk County 33 yd. line. The
Yellowjackets picked up a first
down on the 21 and 9 yd. lines
but the Wolverine defense
tightened up and held Edneyv
ille to a field goal with 4:21 left
in the first quarter for a 3-0
lead.
Otis Miller received the kick-
off for Polk County on his own
15 and returned the ball to the
21 yd. line. After an incomplete
pass, Sean Cunningham took
the handoff for a 79 yd. touch-
down run. The extra pt. attempt
failed, making the score 6-3
with 3:35 left in the first quar
ter.
Edneyville received the kick-
off on their own 17 yd. line and
returned it to the 38. They
picked up two first down's
before Travis Gilbert recovered
a fumble on a 2nd and 3rd play
from the Edneyville 41 yd. line.
An unsportsman like conduct
penalty moved the ball back to
the Polk County 40 yd. line. On
3rd and 25, Kip Stokes passed
to Gaverick Carson for a 70 vd,
touchdown play. The extra
point was no good but the
Wolverines led 12-3 with 51
