Ronnie Benninger will be 101
years old on Nov. 19, 1991.
They will be having a birthday
party for her at White Oak Ter
race Tuesday afternoon where
she has been a resident since
Dec. 27, 1976. Mrs. Benninger
was born and raised in Transyl
vania County, N.C.
She enjoys reading, crochet
ing and working in her church.

TPS Reception
A reception marking the
opening of the Tryon Painters
and Sculptors Membership
Show will be held on Sunday,
Nov. 24th from 3 p.m. to 5
p.m. at the Tryon Fine Arts
Center. The public is invited.
Each member of the Painters
and Sculptors may enter two
works for the show and in addi
tion may submit miniature
items for the Christmas Nook.
The original art in the Christ
mas Nook will sell for $25 or
less and will be an excellent
source for Christmas gifts.
The reception will be hosted
by Princess Ransom and her
daughter, April Frost Bundy
and their committee. The gala
reception is sure to be another
of their artistic creations.
The Members Show will con
tinue at the Fine Arts Center
until Dec. 31st.

Wolverines Victorious
In 1st Round Playoffs
Polk County wrapped up a
26-12 win over Elkin Friday
night in the first round of the
State 1-A playoffs.
Elkin took a 6-0 lead in the
first quarter, Sean Cunningham
threw a 67 yard pass to Otis
Miller to set up the Wolverines
first touchdown. Cunningham
ran the ball 5 yds. for the score.
Kip Stokes ran the two point
conversion to give the Wolve
rines an 8-6 lead.
In the second quarter, Kip
Stokes ran 1 yard for a touch-
down to give Polk County a
14-6 lead.
Sean Cunningham scored late
in the third quarter on a 1 yd.
and 4 yd. mns. Elkin scored a
touchdown in the last two min
utes of the game, giving Polk
County a 26-12 victory.
Coach Stokes said the
Wolverines "played good. We
had no fumbles, no intercep
tions and made the plays we
had to make."
