Please join us. —Community Reporter Name Omitted The name of Mary Lancaster was inadvertently omitted as a co-hostess for the Thrift-y Garden Club Christmas Party to be held tonight at 5:30. —Communitv Reporter TUESDAY, DEC. 10,1991 McFalls Gives Confession To Landrum Police Frankie Dean McFalls, charged last Friday with murder in the death of Angelia Brown, made his first appearance in Polk County Circuit Court Monday and was given a court- appointed attorney. Meanwhile, graveside ser vices were held Saturday for Brown, who was McFalls' common law wife. Her body had been found in the woods of Green Creek Nov. 22. McFalls told the story of her death to police Friday. He called Landrum Police Chief Gary Laughter and Polk County Sheriffs Deputy Sgt. James Carter to his cell in the Spar tanburg County jail Friday morning. "He advised us he wanted to get this off his chest," Laughter said Friday afternoon. "Frankie Dean had a violent temper. He said he had regretted this ever since it happened. He said he didn't mean to do it and he wanted her father to know that." Laughter said he stopped by Tom Brown's house Friday to convey McFalls' message. McFalls did not describe the killing in his confession. "It was too traumatic. Either he can't say how he did it, or maybe there is a block in his memory," Laughter explained. "We will have to talk some more about that." What McFalls did say is that rCnnHnnrH n n n a ^u P„„„\ 2UC Per 1 ops Hospice Tree Shines At Stearns Tlie Hospice Christmas Tree, a Norway spruce which has already taken root and is thriv ing in Stearns Park in Colum bus, will he formally presented to the park on Sun., Dec. 15 at 1:30 p.m. in a brief ceremony. The public is welcome. This particular tree has been placed in Stearns Park to be a visible symbol of the compas sionate care offered by the Hospice program to brighten that phase of life when recovery is no longer anticipated. A plaque recognizes the people who provide that special care. The Hospice Tree has been planted in the park for the enjoyment of the community year round. Hospice will deck it out with lights each Christmas season. —Community Reporter Tryon Antiques Club The Tryon Antiques Club will have their Christmas meeting at the Old Farm owned by Wil liam Janes on Page Road.
