Carl Pleasants Wins
Tryon Geography Bee
Seventh grader Carl Pleasants
won the school-level competi
tion of the National Geography
Bee on Dec. 12 and a chance at
a $25,0(1(1 college scholarship.
First runner-up was Kevin
Williams, another seventh
grader.
Carl will take a written test;
up to 100 of the lop scorers in
each state and territory will be
eligible to compete in their state
Bee on March 27.
Carl is the son of Hilda and
Phillip Pleasants of Lynn.

Union checks were recently
stolen from Express Food Ser
vices, acct. # 752-801-3713.
The account is closed, but some
have tried to cash checks.

Expo Is Dec. 20
On Friday, December 20, in
the Mural Room of the Tryon
Fine Arts Center, Discovery
House will present its Christ
mas Expo, a student music
recital. . _ . .
As a culmination of the tail
semester which began in Sep
tember, the students of Pam
McNeil Thompson, Betty Van
Buskirk, Lynda Terrell, Colleen
May Fowler, and Mary Delaney
will perform a variety of selec
tions on the piano, violin, and
flute- .
Die Expo will begin at /•.DO
p.m. The public is cordially
invited to attend at no charge.
Refreshments will be served
after the performance.
