Russian Artists
At Fine Arts Center
On January 5, 1992, at the
Tryon Fine Arts Center there
will be a very unusual art show
and reception to which the pub
lic is invited. Two Russian art
ists (now living in Henderson
ville) Vasily and Julia Polevoy
will be showing their art works.
The Polevoys together with
their 25 year old daughter came
to Hendersonville in May of
1990 from USSR. The Polevoys

the Soviet life and folklore and
Russian iconagraphy.
Julia Polevoy graduated from
the Moscow Institute of
Advanced Art with her studies
concentrated in mural painting.
Vasily Polevoy studied at the
Higher Pedagogical University
of Arts and Science in Lening-

successful career with commis
sions from the Soviet govern

throughout the country and the
Columbian Embassy.
Life changed for the Polevoys
when they began to try to prac

Union of Artists, which guaran
teed access to art materials and
commissions was revoked.
Frustrated in efforts to follow
their religious beliefs and
denied a future in art, they
