Porcelain
Sculpture Class
The Tryon Painters and
Sculptors will present a new
sculpture class taught by Mary
Schweder who owns the Trade
Street Gallery. Mary is a very
well known sculptor in porce
lain and she has consented to
teach porcelain sculpture on
Tuesday morning from 9 to 12,
starting Jan. 14 in Studio II
which is in the Farwell Annex
next door to the Fine Arts Cen
ter. This class will last eight
weeks.
Ms. Schweder is known par
ticularly for her porcelain
sculpture of everyday objects
we see around the house. She
has created delicately beautiful
bags, ballet slippers, golf shoes,
hats, gloves, and even a type
writer - all in porcelain. There
is a particular charm when one
sees a recognizable object made
out of another material but yet it
looks very natural.
Mary will teach how to work
with porcelain and you will
create your own object under
her guidance. Check your
schedule and if you have three
hours Tuesday mornings, pre-
r egister with Pat Hunter by
filing 859-9755. Patti Palmer
will continue to teach ceramic
c lay sculpture on Wednesday
m ornings, starting Jan. 15, and
You may get more information
on that by calling Pat Hunter.
