N.C. 28782 The Tryon Daily Bulletin Phone 859-9151 Vol. 66 - No. 8 The weather Wednesday, high 58, low 28, hum. 58 percent, and by 7 a.m. Thursday .02 inches of rain had fallen. Every once in awhile, you hear people mistakenly describe local issues as though they were peculiar to Polk County. Take the gun safety law recently debated here. Some folks acted as if they thought our board of commissioners was off in left field passing ordinances willy nilly "every time they get a complaint." In fact, the board was right in the mainstream of American thought. In his column, reprinted in the Spartanburg Herald-Journal Thursday, Ray Sasser, a colum nist for the Dallas (TX.) Morn ing News made a prediction- "By the year 2000, I predict we will see radical steps taken to eliminate hunting accidents and slob hunters... We must take steps to eliminate the neg ative aspects of this timeless sport we call hunting. The gen eral public docs not understand hunting in the 1990s and shakes its collective head in disbelief at hunters shooting one another and violating game laws.. The time is now for hunters to stress responsibility for their sport." (Continued On Back Page) Printed In the THERMAL BELT of Western North Carolina TRYON, N. C. 28782 Peoples Receives Army Award J. Across from the post office arc selected paintings by Katharine Boerner Rindge. A local artist, Rindge's earlier work was las seen here at the Upstairs in 1986, and at the Tryon Fine arts Center in 1982. A painter for 25 years, her canvasses have been collected and shown in museums and galleries across the U. S. since 1967. Fellow Tryon artist John Ros- mini calls Rindge a "thinking artist"..."She expresses through form and color, the poetry and lyricism of intellectual thought." To view these abstract paint ings is also to enjoy them emo tionally. The marriage of the two, thought and feeling, in this work is awesome and success ful.
