The weather Wednesday: high
65, low 48, hum. 55 percent.
Heading into the political
season in Polk County, it seems
to us that we have one barrier to
overcome. We don't all think
alike.
We don't mean on the issues -
sign ordinances, gun ordi
nances, and such. Heck, there
will always be disagreements
on issues. We mean to say that
there arc differences in our
basic philosophical approaches
to life and human interaction.
Some people in Polk County
appear to hold the notion that if
we would only get to know one
another better, talk things
through like adults, we could
work things out.
Others seem to operate on the
premise that "familiarity breeds
contempt." They think that the
"enemy" is wily, and if you let
him get too close, he might
corrupt your thinking, trick you.
There are some in Polk
County who you never ever
hear from in any public way.
But they are busily working
behind the scenes. Ask them out
for a cup of coffee. No way.
Ask them for a quote for the
newspaper. You've got to be
kidding.

will be held Sunday from noon
to 7 p.m. at the Tryon Youth

there for part of the afternoon.)
The dinner was the idea of
Sidestreet Pizza in Tryon and
has involved many hours of
preparation already with baking
and food preparation going on
daily. A full meal, it will center
on Bob Capozzi's well-known
and liked spaghetti sauce,
meatballs, salad, garlic bread,
drinks, topped off with desserts
made by members of many
local church and organizations.
Tiic problem oi serving such a
meal was easily solved when
the Polk County Jaycees took
the job as their project and con
tribution. Besides helping to
sell tickets, they will be waiting
tables, filling trays, cleaning up,
etc.
And to top offer the event,
Twice Shy, a, band from the
Fletcher area offered their tal
ents providing cat-along music
from 3 to 7 p.m.
Tickets for this event are
available from local stores,
local Jaycees, and at the door.
