Heading into the political season in Polk County, it seems to us that we have one barrier to overcome. We don't all think alike. We don't mean on the issues - sign ordinances, gun ordi nances, and such. Heck, there will always be disagreements on issues. We mean to say that there arc differences in our basic philosophical approaches to life and human interaction. Some people in Polk County appear to hold the notion that if we would only get to know one another better, talk things through like adults, we could work things out. Others seem to operate on the premise that "familiarity breeds contempt." They think that the "enemy" is wily, and if you let him get too close, he might corrupt your thinking, trick you. There are some in Polk County who you never ever hear from in any public way. But they are busily working behind the scenes. Ask them out for a cup of coffee. No way. Ask them for a quote for the newspaper. You've got to be kidding. (Continued On Back Page) TRYON. N. C. 28782 Benefit Dinner Sunday A benefit Spaghetti Dinner will be held Sunday from noon to 7 p.m. at the Tryon Youth Center on Hwy. 176. Proceeds will be used to help with medi cal expenses for heart surgery for Ralph Kuether. (He has now returned home and hopes to be there for part of the afternoon.) The dinner was the idea of Sidestreet Pizza in Tryon and has involved many hours of preparation already with baking and food preparation going on daily. A full meal, it will center on Bob Capozzi's well-known and liked spaghetti sauce, meatballs, salad, garlic bread, drinks, topped off with desserts made by members of many local church and organizations. Tiic problem oi serving such a meal was easily solved when the Polk County Jaycees took the job as their project and con tribution. Besides helping to sell tickets, they will be waiting tables, filling trays, cleaning up, etc. And to top offer the event, Twice Shy, a, band from the Fletcher area offered their tal ents providing cat-along music from 3 to 7 p.m. Tickets for this event are available from local stores, local Jaycees, and at the door. —Community Reporter AA Meeting Tonight AA meeting in Green Creek Community Building, tonight (Fri., Feb. 7), 7:30 p m. For more information call 863-4155. FRIDAY, FEB. 7,1992 Rev. Timothy D. Jones New Minister At Calvary Baptist Calvary Baptist Church of Landrum, announces the appointment of Rev. Timothy D. Jones to its pastorate. The Rev. Jones is a 1987 graduate of East Henderson High School, Flat Rock. He was ordained in 1990 and graduated from Bob Jones University, Greenville, in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the school of Religion. The Reverend and Mrs. Jones will be moving to Landrum in May and will reside in the church parsonage. He will assume his pastoral responsi bilities Sun., Feb. 9. Rev. Jones is married to the former Kerry A. Medders of Saluda. She is a 1988 graduate of Faith Christian School in Hendersonville.
