Dog Warden, recently brought
us the following letter written
by another animal control offi
cer for publication in newspa
pers across the country:
"I am your animal control
officer. I am not the dreaded
"dogcatcher" or the "murderer"
you call me.
"It is not I who allows your
pet to roam the streets, to con
tract diseases from other free-
roaming animals, to be hit by
passing motorists or poisoned
by rotting garbage...
"It is not I who allows your
pets to breed, then dumps the
unwanted puppies and kittens
on the roadsides and in the
shelters...
"It is not I who keeps a pet
confined in an area too small -
without food, water, shelter or
exercise..."
In his letter, the animal con
trol officer points out that it is
him who must find the starving
animals and put them to sleep to
end their suffering. It is him
who must pick up the fright-

Championship Game
Polk County squeaked into
the Sectional Championship by
downing Blue Ridge 78-67
Tues, night in a game much
closer than the final score indi
cates. The Wolverines didn't
take control of the see-saw
battle until the last seven min
utes of the game.
Polk County jumped ahead
early behind Larry Fagan's 9
points, taking a 13-4 lead at the
4:55 mark. Blue Ridge came
right back and went ahead
17-16 with 13 seconds left in
the quarter.
The second quarter saw the
game tied twice and the lead
change ten times, with both
teams pushing the ball up and
down the court. The Wolverines
took a 38-37 lead into halftime.
The Wolverines kept the lead
until Blue Ridge connected on a
3 point play at the 6:30 mark of
the third quarter to go ahead
42-40. Dcwayne Anderson's
basket tied the score at 42 with
6:19 to go. The lead changed
two times and was tied again at
49 with 2:51 left before Polk
County outscored Blue Ridge
9-3 and took a 58-52 lead into
the final quarter.
Blue Ridge tied the game at
58 with 7:44 left in the game.
The Wolverines took the lead
for good at the 7:23 mark. They
went up by as much as 8,
68-60, with 4:55 to go before
Blue Ridge cut the lead to 4,
68-64, at the 2:24 mark. That
was as close as Blue Ridge

man's Award" rated by cus
tomer surveys as having deliv
ered superior sales and service
satisfaction, (Norris Ford) is
among the top two percent of
all the 5,340 Ford, Lincoln-
Mercury and Heavy Truck
dealerships.
"In the past year, these dealers
have demonstrated an unyield
ing commitment to the highest
standards of customer satisfact
ion," said Ford Chairman Har
old A. "Red" Poling of the
award recipients. "Through
dedication, hard work and con
tinuous improvement of their
service quality, they have dis
tinguished themselves and their
dealerships."
Mr. Poling noted the overall
customer satisfaction rating for
the company's dealers has
increased consistently since the
award program began in 1985.
"In today's competitive mar
ket, winning the battle for sales
means meeting and exceeding
the customers' expectations in
every aspect of sales and ser
vice," he said.
