Spring Training
For Hospice
A few mornings spent this
spring enrolled in a class will
give interested men and women
an overview of the Hospice
program and may be the begin
ning of a rewarding experience.
A six-session course starling
Tuesday, March 31, will allow
participants to listen to several
volunteers who are currently
making visits to the homes of
persons who know they cannot
anticipate recovery but appreci
ate deeds that bnng a measure
of enrichment to their days.
The better a volunteer under
stands the whole Hospice pro
gram, the easier he or she can
grasp the volunteer’s part in the
picture. The volunteer’s role is
regarded as the heart of the
program.
There will be lectures or
workshops or films or group
discussions on such subjects as
listening and communicating;
physical, emotional and spiri-
tual needs of terminally ill per
sons and their families; the
interdisciplinary team concept;
the importance of confiden
tiality; grief and bereavement.
This training course for Hos
pice volunteers will run on
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9
a.m. until noon, beginning
March 31 and ending April 16.
It will be held in the class-
room at St. Luke's Hospital. To
register call 859-2270. There is
no charge. Both men and
women are needed.
