Saluda Scores At Voc Ed Conference
Twenty-five students from
grades 7-9 from Saluda School
attended a vocational education
conference at UNC in Asheville
on March 9.
The widely attended annual
conference is sponsored by the
Career Exploration Clubs of
North Carolina.
Scoring high on tests about
jobs related to a number of
vocations, Saluda students car
ried home three first place
awards in addition to single
awards in both second and third
place.
First place winners were:
Elizabeth Whaley, eighth grade,
Personal Service; Keith Emory,
ninth grade, Construction; and
Michael Carland, seventh grade.
Transportation.
Placing in other categories
were: Jody Jones, eighth grade,
second place, Communications;
and Shawn Pace, seventh grade’,
third place. Agricultural Busi
ness.
First place winners will com
pete at the state vocational con
test in Greensboro on May 9.
Performing as a team in their
original skit, "Be Cool, Stay In
School," seven Saluda students
made history by placing third.
According to faculty advisor
Evangelena Barber, who
accompanied the group, Saluda
School has never placed before
in "Skit."
Team menibers were: Amy
Case, April Jones, Jessica
Sinex, Michelle Wilkinson,
Tricia Talbot, Christy Summey
and Layla Mele. All except
Mele, an eighth grader, are in
the ninth grade.
The average time lapse between a mosquito bite and
