It’s time to put on your think
ing cap and get ready for the
parade of Mad Hatters at Satur
day's 46th running of the Block
House Steeplechase. The Hat
Contest will be held at the pad-
dock in front of the Judges
Tower, 11:30 a.m. sharp.
In past years, judges have
witnessed millinery expertise of
staggering heights, including:
three-tiered wedding cake
arrangements, topped by stal
lion and mare, and a steeple
chase course, to a complete
barnyard on the brim and col
ossal-sized Monis the Horse. A
real bridle veil was another
winner.
Judges say it helps, of course,
to incorporate a horse into the
headgear theme. Bonnets,
bowlers, sombreros, Stetsons,
Panama hats, pork-pies, top
hats, and turbans are all game
for decoration.
The contest is sponsored by
