Supt.'s Job In Columbus Fri. Owen Phillips brought his campaign for the office of State Superintendent of Public Instruction to Democratic Headquarters in Columbus early Friday morning. Phillips, currently on leave from his post as superintendent of High Point Public Schools, said he wants to bring a profes sional's experience to the office. "Wliat we have now is a for mer hardware store owner," Phillips said of State Supt. Bobby Etheridge. "While there is nothing wrong with that occupation, what we need is a professional at the helm of our profession." Phillips was being hosted on his Western N.C. campaign tour by Polk County Supt. James Causby, who endorsed him in introductory remarks Friday Phillips said he and Causby both supported Etheridge during the last campaign, believing his legislative powers would be good for the schools.
