The weather Thursday, high
74, low 50, hum. 45 percent. In
April, 5.37 inches of rain fell,
just .06 inches more than
average. It was a lot wetter
last April, when 8.18 inches of
rain fell. So far this year, 21.23
inches of rain has fallen, 2.03
inches less than average. The
K temperature in April was
egrees, registered on April
24, and the low was 28
degrees, registered on April
4th.
The polls open tomorrow at
6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m.
Voters in Polk County will
choose candidates from each
party to run in the general elec
tion in November. Choices
include President of the United
States, U.S. Senator, Governor,
Lt. Governor, Superintendent of
Public Instruction, judges and
other statewide officials.
On the local scene, Democrats
and Republicans will choose
county commissioner candi
dates and Democrats will
choose a Register of Deeds
candidate.
If you are registered as an
independent, remember that the
Republican Party chose to allow
you to participate in its primary,

A July wedding is planned.
Donna graduated East Easley

lege in Greenwood, S.C. She is
employed at First Citizens in
Tryon.
David graduated from Polk
Central High School and is
employed in Spartanburg, S.C.

Pebler Inducted
Into Second Wind
Emme Pebler is shown above
as she was inducted into the
Tryon Chapter of the Second
Wind Hall of Fame recently.
John Vining, director of the
Polk County Cooperative
Extension Service, presented
her with the framed certificate
of membership at the 4-H and
Youth Center in Columbus.
With her at the presentation
were many co-workers prepar
ing the benefit barbecue supper
for the 4-H and Youth Center.
When Emme and her late
husband, George, moved to
Columbus in 1975, they became
busily involved in 4-H. Emi
nently suited for this volunteer
work, they had previously
operated a large dairy farm and
vegetable garden at their home
in Roxbury, N.Y. in the Catskill
Mountains. The busy life of
farming and raising a family left
little time for outside activities,
but she did find time for mem-

Final Meet
For Junior High
The Polk County boys' junior
high track team concluded its
season at a multi-team meet in
Hendersonville.
They competed with track and
field athletes from Rugby, Flat
Rock, Waynesville, Canton,
Asheville, Hendersonville, and
Edneyville.
Polk County scored in two
events: the 4x100 relay for sev
enth graders and the 4x400
relay. The seventh grade team,
which scored sixth place, con
sisted of Ryan Mills, John
Hutcherson, Justin Webb, and
Travis Twitty. Their time was
1:00.57.
The 4x400 team also took
sixth place. Travis Twitty,
Jason Trifiro, Andy Chaffin,
and Jermaine Wilkerson fin
ished the race in 5:18. Polk
County athletes also partici
pated in the following events:
