Yesterday we congratulated
the winners in the primary elec
tions. Let us all not forget
also to thank the losers for their
effort and public spiritedness.
Some would say this is non
sense, just blowing smoke. We
all preferred certain candidates,-
and voted for them. True
enough, we have preferences
and have to choose. But most of
all we prefer people who care
enough about their community
to get involved, who care
enough to take the abuse and
possible rejection that comes
with seeking a public leadership
role. They most certainly
deserve our praise.
Congratulations to Charlie
Feagan, Ross Gosnell, Joan
Skipper, Grover Whitmire,
Kathy West and Norma Gaut.
Listen carefully, candidates.
You'll hear a standing ovation
from above.

Tennant Initiated
Into Honor Society
Kyle Tennant, a senior at
Presbyterian College, has been
inducted into the S.C. Eta
Chapter of Pi Gamma Mu, the
international honor society in
Social Science.
Tennant, a political science
major, is the son of Geoffrey
and Alice Tennant of Tryon,
and a graduate of Tryon High
School.
Membership in Pi Gamma Mu

well as faculty members

social sciences. At Presbyterian
College, students who meet
these standards are invited to
join S.C. Eta when nominated
by a faculty member in one of
the social sciences.
Pi Gamma Mu, founded in
1924, now has 170,000 mem
bers at 180 chapters located at
colleges and universities in the
U.S. and abroad. The purpose
of the society is to encourage
academic excellence in the
social sciences, promote social
service, and develop leadership
skills among its members.

Interact History Made At Landrum
At a brief ceremony in Princi
pal Daniel McDowell's office at
the Landrum High School, Dr.
Dave Allen, Rotary Sponsor of
the Landrum Interact Club
(Junior Rotary), relinquished
his position to Jack Short of the
Tryon Rotary Club.
Observing were Gail Wilson,
Guidance Counselor, and Pat
Strother, long time Faculty
Advisor of the Landrum Club.
Dave has been the Rotary
Sponsor from 1989-1992, dur
ing which time Pat Strother has
worked with Dave to make this
club a truly outstanding partner
in the family of Interact.
The Tryon Rotary Club spon
sors Interact Clubs, in addition
to the one at Landrum, in Polk
Central and Tryon High. There
is a unique relationship between
the Rotary Sponsor and the
Faculty Advisor working
together with the full support of
the school Principal and Guid
ance Counselor, backed up by
the 115 members of the Tryon
Rotary Club. Under the guid
ance of Dave and Pat, the Lan
drum club has grown and
become an important factor in
teaching good citizenship and
personal integrity.
Landrum has won honors in
Rotary District 7670, comprised
of some 42 Rotary Clubs. Tryon
Rotary is second in the U.S. in
the number of Interact Clubs
which they sponsor, all of
which is only possible through
the efforts of dedicated school
advisors and Rotary sponsors.
Dave Allen will be the new
Rotary Secretary commencing
in July, which is a full time job
necessitating that he reluctantly
pass over his long connection
with Landrum High to Jack
Short.
Rotary looks forward to a
continued "onward and upward"
future for the Landrum Club,
working under this new team.
