Kathy Woody of the Tryon Thermal Belt Chamber of Commerce is making her board of directors work this month. Woody recently attended a regional chamber conference in which she learned all about running an efficient, meaningful chamber operation. And she received a "Citizen Knowledge of the Future" test which asks 45 questions about societal trends, education, technology, work, and gov ernment. Woody forwarded a copy to the members of the chamber board, who are puz zling over it right now. Here are a sampling of those questions for you to try: Societal Trends 1) Currently, the percentage of the population living in rural, urban and suburban areas is 23.3%, 31.5% and 44.6% res pectively. The one category expected to decrease in the future is: a) urban; b) rural; c) suburban. 2) An estimated % of baby boomers will have no children: a) 20%; b) 30%; c) 40%. (Continued On Back Page) TRYON CRAFTS Tryon Crafts, Inc., held its annual meeting and luncheon on May 14 in the Mural Room of the Fine Arts Center. Hunter Kariher, Director of the Penland School, was the speaker. New board members elected at the meeting were: Roberta Kellerman, Mary Kessler, John Griffin, Tom Stavely, Margaret Selover and Robert Beam, each to serve a two-year term. After the annual meeting the new board met briefly and elected Roberta Kellerman as president, Elsie Wicgel, vice president, Pat Crumrine, secre tary and Paula Joyce, treasurer. -Community Reporter Buys Home Brian Collins of Campobello, S.C. has purchased a home on Rutherford Road in Landrum from Arnette and Mike Hannon. The purchase was handled through AM: Realty. - Community Reporter ICC Radio And Television Dept. The Isothermal Community College Radio and Television Dept, has scheduled a special program this summer for high school stu dents who have an interest in radio broadcasting. Participating students will gain an understanding of radio program formats, airshift preparation and presentation, commercial announcement production, and news gathering and reporting. Upon completion of the program, students will be encouraged to continue gaining experience in radio broadcasting as volunteer air personalties at the campus cable FM radio station, WOZQ. "A career in radio broadcasting can be very enjoyable and rewarding, but the competition for job openings is intense," says Jay Coomes, ICC Radio/TV instructor. "Participating students will learn basic broadcasting skills and gain experience in our state of the art facilities, providing them with an early start in their preparation for a career in radio broadcasting." Open to all high school students who are at least 16 year old and N.C. residents, the program will consist of two sessions this year. A half-day session will be held from 9 a.m. to Noon for two weeks, July 6-17. The full day session will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for one week, July 27-31.
