societal trends, education,
technology, work, and gov

Here are a sampling of those

ICC Radio And Television Dept.
The Isothermal Community College Radio and Television Dept,
has scheduled a special program this summer for high school stu
dents who have an interest in radio broadcasting. Participating
students will gain an understanding of radio program formats,
airshift preparation and presentation, commercial announcement
production, and news gathering and reporting. Upon completion
of the program, students will be encouraged to continue gaining
experience in radio broadcasting as volunteer air personalties at
the campus cable FM radio station, WOZQ.
"A career in radio broadcasting can be very enjoyable and
rewarding, but the competition for job openings is intense," says
Jay Coomes, ICC Radio/TV instructor. "Participating students
will learn basic broadcasting skills and gain experience in our
state of the art facilities, providing them with an early start in their
preparation for a career in radio broadcasting."
Open to all high school students who are at least 16 year old and
N.C. residents, the program will consist of two sessions this year.
A half-day session will be held from 9 a.m. to Noon for two
weeks, July 6-17. The full day session will meet from 9 a.m. to 4
p.m. for one week, July 27-31. Total registration fee for either
session is $49. Applications or additional information is available
from Jay Coomes at 704-286-3636, Ext. 324.
