The weather Wednesday, high
73, low 68, hum. 72 percent,
and by Thursday at 7 a.m.
1.21 inches of rain had fallen,
and fallen, and fallen...
O.K., it’s the moment we've
all been waiting for. It's time to
finish our game of "Citizen
Knowledge of the Future!"
(Applause. Applause.)
Thank you. Thank you very
much. You may recall that on
June 1st we posed 19 questions
regarding the future from a quiz
which Kathy Woody of the
Tryon Thermal Belt Chamber
of Commerce received at a
regional chamber workshop.
She revealed the answers to
the chamber board of directors
Wednesday, and today we rev
eal them to you knuckleheads.
B,C,C,B,A,C,B...
O.K., all kidding aside. The
questions and answers are:
1) Currently, the percentage
of the population living in rural,
urban and suburban areas is
23.3%, 31.5% and 44.6% res
pectively. The one category
expected to decrease in the
future is: a) urban; b) rural; or
c) suburban.
Survey says: b) rural.
2) An estimated % of baby
boomers will have no children.

Update On Africa
If you attended the Great
Decisions series held this
spring at the Polk County
Campus of Isothermal Com
munity College, you heard an
excellent presentation on events
in Africa from Dr. Dwight
Mullen of the University of
North Carolina in Asheville. Dr.
Mullen is not only exception
ally well informed about the
rapidly changing political, cul
tural and social climate of the
various nations on the African
continent, but he is also the
kind of speaker who really
holds the attention of his
audience. Dr. Mullen has agreed
to do an update on Africa on
Tues., June 16, from 3 to 5 p.m.
in the Lecture Room at the Polk
Campus. He will answer ques
tions and discuss issues as part
of the presentation. Dr. Mullen
graduated from Loma Linda
University with a B.A. in His
tory and Political Science, and
received his M.A. and Ph.D.
from Atlanta University in the
same field. There is no charge
for this update, but we would
like to know about how many
people to prepare for, so please
call 894-3092 if you would like
to attend.
