Paintings On Display
A Trade Street Gallery exhi
bition of American paintings
has just returned to Tryon from
France. The exhibition was held
in Ouimperle, Brittany, May
1-10,1992.
Artist, Paul Pourbaix of Four
Columns Farm in Landrum,
invited Mary Schweder of
Trade Street Gallery to organize
the exhibit which was to be a
part of the international Art
Exposition held during the first
Ouimperle Art Festival. The
exposition "Peintres Ameri-
cains" included work by Jeanne
Parker of Tryon; Betty Clark &
Rollie Erickson, Asheville;
Lynne Tanner, Rutherfordton;
Richard Powers, Conn.; Paul
Pourbaix, Landrum; and Cyn
thia Edwards and Phelix Ludop
of New York.
The paintings were selected
by Mary Schweder and sent
from Trade Street Gallery to
Michael Maket, an Art Dealer
in Paris. Mr. Maket, working
together with Paul Pourbaix,
arranged transport from Paris to
Ouimperle and installed the
exhibition at Le Port de Pouldu.
Jeanne Parker of Tryon exhi
bited five acrylic paintings on
canvas and all were sold.
The Ouimperle festival will
be an annual event and Mary
Schweder of Trade Street Gal
lery has been invited to orga
nize the American Paintings
exhibition for 1993.
The paintings have been
uncrated and are on display at
Trade Street Gallery in Tryon.
