Dr. Joe Dunn, Professor of History and Political Science at Converse College, will present an update on events in the countries that made up the former Soviet Union at the ICC (Continued On Back Page) No Change In Columbus Budget Columbus Town Council Monday morning passed its final 1992-93 budget with no increases in taxes, water and sewer rates or General funds. The General Fund Budget calls for $378,180.67 in reve nues and expenses. The Enter prise Fund (water and sewer) budget totals $360,650. Columbus Town taxes will continue at 30 cents per $100 valuation of property. Water rates will continue inside the city limits at $7 a month for the 1st 3,000 gal. and $1.25 for every 1,000 gal. after. Deposit charge is $35. Outside the city limits, water rates are $50 deposit, $18 a month for the 1st 3,000 gal. and $1.50 for every 1,000 gal. after. Sewer rates continue at 75% of the water bill. Garbage pickup inside the city limits is still $5.75 a month. The breakdown of the cost of operating Columbus's Town Government is as follows: -Administrative Expense- $65,282.38; -Public Safety: $111,281.37; -Fire Dept.: $14,100; -Public Works: $55,866.92; -Street Dept.: $28,000; -Refuse Collection: $85,400; -Non-Departmental: $18,250. Wages and salaries, outside services and utilities take the biggest chunk out of the Enter prise Fund. Among revenues expected in this fund are $55,000 in 1/2% sales tax (Continued On Back Page) Ted Proudfoot Named Rotarian Of The Year of At the June 29 meeting Tryon Rotary Club, Ted W. Proudfoot was awarded the Jospeh W. Wells Memorial trophy as Tryon Rotarian of the year. Allen Neighbors, president of Tryon Rotary, in making the presentation recognized many of Ted Proudfoot's accomplish ments since moving to Tryon with his wife, Abie, in 1984. Prior to that time, Ted was National Account Manager for Unocal Corporation in New York where he was employed for 40 years. Proudfoot is best known in this community for his work in founding the World Federalist Association of Western Caroli nas as a part of the World Fed eralist Association of Washing ton, D.C. of which Ted is a director.
