What's happening: The Columbus Town Council meets Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Hall. No, it's not a dirt bike track or an airplane hangar under construction in the former hay field. It's Carlo and Alice Vittorini's answer to the need for a state- of-the-art equestrian training facility in the area. And state-of-the-art it will be, Mr. Vittorini says. The 23,000 sq. ft. indoor riding arena, the 18-stall barn, the six individually fenced pastures, the 20-foot-wide galloping trail, and outdoor riding ring all guarantee that. And when you add trainer Martha Kemmer to the equation, the sum is a first- class dressage and combined training facility. The thousands of exposed yellow pine boards in the roof trusses of the indoor riding arena are what's been attracting most of the attention for the past few weeks. Besides being curious about the arena itself, area residents seem most per plexed by the double row of fencing surrounding the prop erty. Mr. Vittorini explains that the fencing is simply a way to create defined trails within the fifty acre tract.
