PAGE TWO NEWS THURSDAY, MARCH 13TH 199. REPORTER A SERMAN ON THE 75 MILLION CAMPAIGN tiiri. 1111UU1U Hannah Troy "The children of Ephrain being armed and carrying bows turned back in the day of battle." Ps. 78:9 Ephrain is spoken of here as it is in several other places in the Bible as meaning the ten tribes of I S 13. 1 The United States today is cer tainly the modern Ephraim. As Ephraim of old. we are a nation made rich and prosperous in a very short time. It has only been 327 years since the first permanent set tlement was made in America, and oirlv 143 years since we won our L Tedder , T-l 1 1. 7 independence troni rngianu; uu look at us today, the richest and most prosperous country on earth. "Man cannot live by bread alone, but by every word which proceedeth out of the mouth of God", We hear the saying, "give, you'll never miss it." The thing we need to do is to give to the Lord until we do miss it. We are so bountifully supplied with material things that we don't stop to think where they came from; anything, about the value of spirituaal things; or our utter helplessness without . God who giveth all. Do we ever stop to think about j how wonderfully and miraculously j God has blessed and preserved Us i as a nation? God guided Columbus to the shores of this great conti- j nent.. He guided the pligrim fath-! ers "to the bleak barren shores of : England and "led them to erect the ' churches in the valleys and the lit- tie .school houses on the hills. These 1 our first inhabitants of North Am erica put God first in their lives, i while the Spanish who settled South America erected drinking establish ments and gambling dens. Contrast them today. Just as truly as the Lord led Mos es and Joshua of old, He led Wash ington to take a handful of half naked men with bleeding and sore feet, some times half starved, and win our independence. But God chose the opportune time for His Modern Ephraim, for England was at war with Holland, Spain, and France at the same time. So with all our love for Washington and those who followed him, let us not forget to give God the credit for the victory and our independence. And as much might be said of the guidance of Lincoln, and of Wil son. God chose the man for the hour. What does it all mean? That we are placed in the midst of the na tions.
