' About 5 Vclook oft TuesJay evening; ki the WMDington traitf or cars was leaving the PruttiPep sraa" bTf About 10 yeart of ace, wnose name we could not learn, made a most narrow sacape from death, on Pratt, a Bhort distance) above Ctarlea.t He started to cross Pratrttreetv ahead of one of the cars, and was struck and knocked down by the lead ing' horses. Fortunately he fell between the rails, the horses and cor passing over him, no effort being made by the driver to stop his horses although being called to. He merely turned his head, and looking back kefpl on at the same furious ' gait he was driving when he struck the boy. As the boy emerged from behind the passen ger tar, be came directly under the horse of the U. S. Mail ear. who were so close behind the passenger car, that the driver did not sett turn until be was under his hones' feet. Fortunately for his limbs nnd life, he was not knocked from tho centre of the track, and the Mail car being stop ped, he was dragged out from under it, be tween the wheels, having received several severe contusions about the head and body, but most miraculously no bones were brok en, nor did we learn that he received any very serious injuries.: Thepcenewaa wit nessed by a large number of persons, nil of wbom believed the boy to be crushed and cut to pieces, and were loud in their condemnation of the gross negligence and apparent indifference of the driver of the passenger ear : who. however, asserts that W did not tee the boy at all f He Was carried tome, being so frightened and bruised that he could not walk. The amount of it is that the cars ore driven along the streets, io .violation of law, nt.a gait that constantly jeopardises the lives of citizens. RUSSIAN VENGEANCE. Behind the chapel was a rack, hnd on both sides of the rack were several rows of gallows some miles in length, nnd in struments of torture ready for the unfortu nate victims. The' punishments were in accordance with the degree of culpability and statkB In society of the rebels. In the first row of gallows the most guilty were executed; after being subject to the rack they were "quartered alive. The leaders hag their hands and legs cut off, and after aflf impaled on long spikes, and left to 1 their horrible fate., .Their groans were heard for miles, and their bodies least ed the eyes 'of the L panic-stricken population. uwsBeoni tow m gmuows- iney-wete only quartered, and their sufferings were, at least,1 shorter. In the third row the par- in tne second tow of gallows' they-wete ties were simply beheaded. In the fourth retr-they were merely hanged In the fifth thejr ran the gauntlet and tbe knout. All the ecdesiasi.es were burned. There were separate gallows for women, mar ried and maiden. Eren children of thir teen years were subjected to great cru elty. Married couples were occasionally Ranged on the same gallows, as well as whole families. During the apace of three months, 13,000 human beings were execu ted in presence of Oolgourjuki ; Stenlco ttoeil nephew and particular friend was quartered. Among the female prisoners was ft handsome nun, who over her female garments had a male attire. She com- maoded a corps of 7,000 men, "gave more than ones proofs of extraordinary courage ana rreat aouity m the field; and inflicted terrible losses' on the Russians. When summoned before Dolgouroulci. she display ed a firmness and presence of mind difficu It to cesonoe, and said, if every one under lief command had dene his duty in such a manner as she had done, Dolgouroulci, Jn- stead of erecting gallows, would have U- eo to hn heels.
