FEMALE ORPHANS INSTIUTE Mr. Lor i no: We hare in this.oor be fb Veil Wilmington, many Societies and Institutions, lo ray nothing of the different fenomrtiat1on of professing Cliristinns, whose end and aim is, lo reform the errora of those who have fallen into vice and ironorailty. But ntJ meroua at theaa good Societka and Inatitu- tiona are, .h eatnlojrift it atitt fieotnprefei There is one more lurking, for a specific ob ject, die accomplishment of which, cannot be, or at least, ir not attained, by alt the other put together; I mean one, for the Ale pur pose of protecting all the Female Children, in our town, who are friendless, penniless Orphans. Let ft be coifed the " Wllmivg Ion Female Orphan Imt ilvle," or any oth er suiluble name so it enn be made to an swer ihe end designed. If il is a great' thing lo reform those who have forsaken, of wan dered from the peaceful pafba of virtae; Why, should it not be equally great, to raise, in struct and guide these penniless, frtendkaa Orph:ins, so that they may have an opportu nity of fitting and qualifying themselves to become useful members of Society 1 Their siluulion is very different from that of boys, who as soon as theyaie large enough, can be put out to trades, where they can earn a living from the start, and learn to rough it for themselves. Not so with the tender fe male. Borne of them are being raised in pla ces and by persons of such doubtful fume. th.u it is feared, 'hey are being fitted and qualified only, to become the victims of the liendifh libertine, and the inmates of the brothel. This ouht not to be. It ought to be remedied. And if it is not. il will be a re flection on the religion, morn Is and virtue, ol this enlightened, generous, and philanthrop ic communiiy. These Children, even Ihe il legitimate, that may be Hmong their number, have had no ngency whatever in bringing themselves into their uiifortun.ite existence, nnd they arc, therefore proper subjects for the attention and care of the philanthropist. a This is not a work to be undertaken by the Episcopalians, Methodist , Baptists, Presby terians, Roman Catholics, Free Masons Odd Fellows. Rerhnbiles, Sons of Tcfnpefftnce.or any other particular sect or Society. But il is a work that appeals through the cries of helpless Ftumfe Orphans of Wrlinington, to the hi-urfs nnd nympalhies of every ludy nnd gentleman of erery philanlhropiil. It it a field in which all may work, arid work lo ad vantage. One, in which, even the Ladies, mny become Odd Fellows." But how is this work of philanthropy to be nccompliuhed 7 Asks one. Let the good penple assemble together, ns upon olher im portant matters, and their united wisdom can not fail to devise a plan for the preper organ ization of a Society lor this purpose. Why, Sir, it seems to me, it may be to organized, that the name of ere-y gentleman and tvtrg litly too, will be found enrolled a members. Unless it should he so organized, as to et cludo 1 liu ludit-e from becoming member. And I see no good reason who they should be -Jtrl urlcd, as every thing they lend a help ing hand to, or bestow thtff approving smiles upon, is sure lo prosper and turn out well. The annual contribution required of each member would be of trifling consideration especially when Compared to the great good that must and will flow Irom iL And who will not be willing to give One Dollar a year to so noble and philanthrophic a cause ? The object should be, to establish an insti tution, at which these- Children should be collected together as one family at the head of which there should be a gentlemtn and his lady of suitable capacity to govern nnd teach them, until they are large enough to earn a living. And then procure homes for them in respectable families, where they will be taken rare of and learned to earn their living, to become useful members of Society, pursuing the quiet and lovely paths of indus try and virtue. In order lo shin w that our felbw-citrzens of Guilford are in earnest, it is onI .neces sary to state simpl what wat done at the meeting in the court-bouse last Tuesds.
