A state Senate subcommittee
has recommended $3
million for a law building at
North Carolina Central University
(NCCU) in Durham,

The Senate appropriation
subcommittee on education
asked that the request be
given top priority above both
the proposed medical school at
East Carolina University and
the proposed Veterinary
School at N.C. State in
Raleigh.
NCCU is under threat of
loss of accreditation by
the American Bar Association
(ABA) if it does not build a
new building and improve its
program. The accrediting
council of the ABA is
I scheduled to review NCCU's
program sometime this summer.
Poor facilities at NCCU are
generally thought Jo be the
reason so many blacks flunk
the N.C. State Bar Exam;
although there are some who
feel the State Board of
Examiners discriminate in its

Doctors
Indicted
Two black doctors arrested
here about two weeks ago
have been indicted on charges
of selling prescriptions for
improper medical reasons.
The indictment is the result
of a statewide crackdown on
licensed physicians distributing
legal drugs illegally.
Dr. Leroy L. Hall, 75, of 309
E. Seventh Street and Dr.
James M. Jones, 50. of 1225
E. Fifth Street, were charged

doctors have been arrested
throughout the state. The
State Bureau of Investigation
is in charge of the crackdown.

the words of Joanne Little in
an interview Thursday night
April 3. Miss Little was in
Winston-Salem for a march
and rally in support of her
fight for justice.

charged with murder Tn The
stabbing death of Charles /
Alligood the 62-year-old jailer
in Beauford County last
August 27. Miss Little
contends that she stabbed
Alligood in self-defense as he
tried to rape her in the jail.
She was being held there on a
charge of breaking and
entering. Alligood's body was
later discovered in the cell, his

naked from the waist down
and clutching his trousers in
his hand. Traces of sperm and
semen were found on his leg.
More than 80 supporters
marched from the Hall ot
Justice downtown to Beulah
Baptist Church at Trade and
^ 14th Street. They were
escorted by a caravan of cars
and a bus load of senior
citizens. At the church, more
than 400 persons gathered for
the rally. They raised more
than $700 for Miss Little's
defense fund. Other pledges
and collections earlier in the
day totaled more than $.350.
At the rally Jerry Paul of
Durham, one of Miss Little's
defense attorneys, estimated
Miss Little's defense would
cost around $250,000. He
defended the cost saying,
"none of the attorneys in this
case are accepting fees." The
$250,000 will go for work by
research teams and other
expenses.

Miss Little's attorney's told
supporters at the rally that
preliminary motions in the
case will be heard in Beauford

Three black men, one
apparently carrying a sawedoff

Happy Hill Garden rental
office at 920 Mock Street and
took an undetermined amount

Mrs. Shirley Eaton, an
employee of the housing
authority said the three men
walked in through the front
door and hollered, "Freeze,
this is a stick up." She said
one suspect jumped over the

a skilled-care license that
would allow Reynolds Hospital
to continue treatment of
intermediate patients, according
to Mazie Woodruff,
chairperson of an ad hoc
committee set up to halt

The three were said to have
