Rev. Dr. J. Ray Butler was receiving the highest award of it's kind given by any organization of it's kind in America. i Today the "Melody Lingers On" as the Winston-Salem Chronicle profiles the Rev. Dr. J. Ray Butler, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church. Rev. Butler was recently elected contributing writer to National Baptist State Convention Sunday School (BTU) Publishing. This is the third honor of the year conveyed on the pastor of the 1,200 member Shiloh Baptist Church. This recent honor of Dr. Butler's means that he will serve as a Biblical writer of Sunday School BTU material to the 6 million ^ L !_ * " - ? 9 suuscnoing memoers to tne [National Baptist State Convention, Inc. ? On October 23 and 24 Rev. Butler will attend a writers workshop in Nashville, Tenn. to consummate his duties of contributing writers. Dr. Butler said that he is extremely honored for the confidence placed in him. "I am pleased and grateful also that my congregation has given me firm endorsement and cooperation." The President of the National Baptist State Convention is Dr. J.H. Jackson of Chicago, HI. who had also in September extended Rev. Ml ^?Mviiua uiiu anviiuwu 11IC ruuut 5UIW15 there. He is the son and ninth child of ten children of the late Amos D. and Mary H. Butler. Rev. Butler received B.A. and B.D. Degrees from Shaw University. He pursued post graduate studies at Southeastern Theological Seminary, Wake/Forest, North Carolina and was awarded the Doctor of Divinity Degree from Friendship College, Rockhill, S.C., where he also serves on the Board of Trustees. He has received Masters of Divinity Degree and Doctor of Divinity Degree from Shaw Divinity School, Raleigh, N.C. He is also a member of Alpha Fraternity. He is married and they have four sons. More about the church and the man is evident in the way he involves the total persons in the services of the church, his "total man" philosophy has contributed to the growth of the church, said one of his members. The National Baptist State Convention Inc. calls Shiloh Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, N.C. "one of the finest in the world. "I saw love everywhere -- just love, thats all, love".
