The new super flick is "Cleopatra Jones and the Casino of Gold." It's a sequel to the original adventure which was simply called "Cleopatra Jones." Tamara Dobson, six feet-two inches of beauty, brain and muscle, stars as Cleopatra again. On this outing, the title is longer and the action much meaner. Cleo's prime problem in the Hub of the Orient is to catch some heroin peddlers and cool them for keeps. Cleo's normally a go-it-alone girl. But with her own life on the line in Hong Kong, she picks up friends and fast. Her best buddy is a pretty Chinese girl who just happens to be the Far East's most potent private eye. Together they tackle a whole gorilla gang and their warlord woman, the evil lady. In the near-fatal fight, Cleo and company start with karate kicks, switch to pistols and then make their terminal moves with machine guns. Hong Kong has long known the lurid life, but the black beauty leaves some fresh lessons on law and order. ''Cleopatra Jones and the Casino of Gold" was spectacularly filmed across Hong Kong and on the island of Macao. Stella Stevens co-stars as the bad Dragon Lady. It has also given a new image to the. black woman. Tamara, who digs fast cars, has made it to the top in a hurry. She started as a fashion model and moved up to movie star in one swift step. "Rags to riches is a good way to go," she explains, that intense face wreathed in a super smile. Tamara Dobson was born in Baltimore. The big thing in that loving family was black pride, and that's what has given her confidence in everything she's tried. Growing to a statuesque six-foot-two, she went to college and earned a degree in fashion illustration, then went to New York and became a top model in magazines like Vogue, Ebony, Life and Look. At ? /wter a snort try at the stage, lamara was picked from among 2,500 hopeful girls to play the title role in "Cleopatra Jones." The picture was dug by blacks and whites and everyone else who likes beauty and action tied on the screen. There was no contest for who would star in the sequel. "Actresses complain that there are no longer good picture parts for girls," Tamara tells. "That's sure not the way it happened with me. I don't do the Bette Davis or Joan Crawford thing. But I'm making it, baby." nri H H i H 11 H II III II !! H H H i IE WINNER r | The Chronicle Saturday Dec. 11, 1976 Page 13 p**ttocf*te* W^EMntI" *w mrmimmO'v _.-t_>MUMmr &&?08c i Late Show!
