Page 10 - The Chronicle - Saturday August 27, 1977 T. . f GOiiMr By Lucile Douthit Rev, Horace C. Walser Conducts Homecoming Service Fall Fishing Not Far Away Fall fishing is just around the comer. With a few more rains the water level of most of the lakes will be up to normal. Hobert Sharpe has been taking white bass down on the Badin Lake. He used a Barracuda lure with a plastic float on his spinning outfit. The sc hooling bass will hit almost any tupe lure if dropped near the school, like white perch the white bass are on the move, attacking gizzard and threadfin shad. The shad are placed in the lake for the purpose of supplying sufficient food for the foraging fish such as crappie, perch, and white bass. find a school of shad and you will be sure to catch something of the predatory species. If you cast to the center of the schooling shad they will be spooked and then sound. It is better to cast opposite their direction of travel. Prddators usually follow schools of shad and pick off the strays or weak ones. Your lure, when placed properly will ap pear to be a stray or injured shad presenting itself as easy prey. .., ,. — -wr>, ^ Interesting anglers, Steven D., left, and Marice Ceaser. If you have experienced some fishless trips due to the extreme hot weather now is the time to get out there and make up for those unproductive days. As the morning and evening become cooler you wfll have some good fishing in store for you. Crappies, are very acco modating in the late evenings. When carppies are hitting fast and furious there is no time for baiting constantly. Your best bet is to use cut bait or an attractive whit lure. My favorite lure is a weighted whit streamer. The strea mer simulates the action of minnow. Being weight ed it can be made to work the bottom as well as any desired depth. Like the doll fly it can be used with a float or clea bubble. The kids will be back in school the day after Labor Day. Have you kept your promise to take one fishing? If you did not fil your committment try to do so one on a week end. If lyou desire to fill that freezer with fresh water fish now is the time to get started. Salt water fishing has not been it’s best during the hot weather. September is suppose to be a good month for deep sea angling so get your dates in with the skipper of your choice unless you prefer pier fishing more. Any way to get the most out of the fall fishing.
