Over the years the Chi cago bom Mr. Harman, has been turning people on by way of his many recordings, in particular the evergreen that be came a collectors item with the pairing of John nie Hartman with the late great John Coltrane to record a collection of great songs. Of this memorable recording session with the two great talents, even today “Lush Life” is stiU one of the most requested songs called on for John nie to sing where ever he's appearing. On February 21, John nie Hartman will be mak ing one of his rare west coast appearances at Howard Rumsey’s Con certs By The Sea jazz emporium with the Dave Mackay Trio. A good lead sheet should accom pany the $6.00. Most producers and A & R men prefer two to three songs per tape with leader at the begiiming and in between each song, depending on the prefe rence of the individual you are submitting your songs to. He also will specify whether he wants cassette or reel-to-reel. Addresses of your choice of who you’re send ing your tape can be gathered through the use of trade magazines, on the back of albums, or if all else fails, write the record company for the address you need. In this busi ness, one has to use his or her imagination. Take for example the television commercial “when E.F. Hutton speaks, people lis ten.’’ A commercial state ment that could well apply to the vocal talents of Johnirie Hartman, for whenever he sings, people listen. Needless to say, people have been listening to Johnnie Hartman sing for a long while, and sing he does.
