I following notice concerning SAINT BENEDICT THE
I MOOR SCHOOL participating in the National School
I Lunch Program- for children unable to pay the full
price of meals and milk served under the National
School Lunch Program. The following is a scale used
in determining x eligibility:

Children from families whose income is at or below
the levels shown are eligible for free or reduced-price
meals or free milk. In addition, families not meeting

unusually high medical expenses, shelter costs in
- ^excess of 30 percent of income, special education
expenses due to the mental or physical condition of a
? child, -and disaster or casualtylosses should apply
application forms have been sent to all of our
student's parents. Additional copies are available at
the principal's office. Information provided on the
application is confidential and will be used only lor the
purpose of determining eligibility. Applications maybe
submitted at any time during the year.
To discourage the possibility of misrepresentation,
the application forms contain a statement above the
space for signature certifying that ail information
furnished in the application is true and correct. An
additional statement is added to warn that the
application is being made in connection with the
receipt of Federal funds, that school officials may, for
cause, verify the information in the application, and
_that deliverate misrepresentation of information in the
application, and that deliberate misrepresentation of
information may subject the applicant to prosecution
under applicable State and criminal statutes!.
Under the provisions of the policy Rev. Francis^J7
O'Rourke, Administrator will review applications and
determine eligibility. If a parent is dissatisfied with
the ruling of the official, he may wish the discussion
the decision with the determining official on an
informal basis. If he wishes to make a formal appeal,
he mav make a request either orallv or in writinc to Sr.
i Edmund Marie, O.S.F. 1208 Hattie Avenue 722-2291,
for a hearing to appeal the decision. The policy
contains an outline of the hearing procedure
it a family member becomes unemployed or if family
size changes, the family ?-\ould contact the school to
file a new application. Such changes may make the
children of the family eligible for reduced price meals,
or for additional benefits such as free meiris and mild
if the family income falls at or below the levels shown
above.
In the operation of child feeding programs, no child
will be discriminated against because of race, sex,
color, or national origin.,

JOY D. WAGGONER, a 10th grader at Carver High
School earned the honor of being named Band Student of

Roger Waggoner of Walnut Cove, N.C. ????
Joy has been playing music for eight years. She plays
the piano, flute, guitar, bells, and trumpet. She is a
member of the Marching Band, Plep Band,' Concert
Band and Stage Band. She won "Band Student of the
Montfo" in March of 1978. Other previous honors,
awards and recognition include: two trophies (bicycle
and skating), over 80 ribbons in various things, 13 gold
pins, two Superior ratings (Flute Quartet); one Superior
rating and one Excellent rating (Flute Solo) and 50
certificates.
At her church, Joy performs with tlie Good News Choir.

the post that is the major lobbying arm for the
Association's legislative efforts.
Althea Simmons is presently the Associate Director for
Branch and Field Services, and is a seasoned member of
the NAACP.
The 54 year old native of Shreveport, Louisiana is a
graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge,
, Louisiana, where she holds a degree in Business
Education. She also has a masters degree in marketing
from the University of Illinois and a J.D. degree in law
from Howard University.
DEBRA DENISE KING has been awarded flight
attendant wings by Piedmont Airlines following completion
of an intensive four-week training course at the local
service carrier's home office in Winston-Salem.
The daughter of Mr. Charles Johnson King of West

King, Miss King is based in Norfolk, Virginia.
