St. Bene* New Pri< ~f St of) Writer \ 'V ; < I Father C. Morris B6vd. ? + ?? ? the new priest of St. ] Benedict the Moor Catholic 1 * Church, is no stranger to Winston-Salem. He 1 was also associated with St. s Vincent's Church in 1 Charlotte and Our Lady of i Mercy in Winston-Salem. | Being the youngest pastor 1 that St. Benedict has ever < had, Father Boyd said that i he is looking forward to the < challenge of the church, getting settled and getting i to know his parrishioners. * i "1 want to support the < spiritual renewel ofour par- ,1 rish and to especially work 1 and pray for vocations .to the priesthood from St. * Benedict. 1 He called his pastoral > assignment to the small, mostly black parrish in East Winston, "a real joy." Being one of the youngest i priests in North Carolina, 1 Boyd said he sees other 1 young men turning to the ' church and entering the 1 priesthood. 1 "There were very few i native North Carolina ] Catholics. A lot of priests i came to the state from elsewhere, but the number j will grow as others settle , here," he said. j Boyd said that one of the 1 reasons that the priesthood, i which he said hjref) great j shortage several years ago is ] now so popular is because 1 of the popularity of Pope 1 John Paul II. Although Boyd has begun his new responsibilities, he brought with lim from Salisbury a 'emembrance of his former barrish in the shape of Vlisha, a mischievous chow and St. Bernard puppy vhich was a gift from one bf his parrishioners.
