Fraternity Ends First Year
The Winston-Salem Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa ended
its first (1980-81) year with a meeting at Salem College
Thursday night by initiating 17 new members, installing
its officers for 1981-82 and hearing a lecture on values in
Education by Dr. Richard Morrill, President of Salem
College.
Phi Delta Kappa is an international professional frater
nity for men and women in education. Its purpose is to
promote quality education with particular emphasis on
publicly supported education. This purpose is ac
complished through quality leadership, research,
teaching and other professional services.
Officers who will lead the chapter for 1981-82 are Dr.
Golden B. Wall, Professor, Winston-Salem State, Presi
dent; Dr. Dudley Shearburn of Salem College, Vice-
President for Membership; Chancel Brown, Principal,
Oldtown School, Vice-President, Programs; Dr. Marcia
Epstein, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools,
Secretary; Mrs, Ann Colley, Oldtown School, Treasurer;
Dr, John Litcher of Wake Forest University, Delegate;
Dr. Charlie B. Hauser, and Mrs. Theresa Robertson,
Alternate Delegate and Dr. Harold Porter, Retired,
Historian.
Initiated into the fraternity were: Mrs. Barbara S.
Bryant, Redger Eckard, Mrs. Hattie Elliott, Ms.
Josephine Griffin, Delray Hartsfield, Jack Johnson, Ms,
Nancy Magruder and Dr. Jo Whitten May.
Also Mrs. Anne Motz, Joseph Milner, Ms. Gay S.
Pitts, Mrs. Janice Thomlinson, Dr. Ernest Thomkins,
Mrs. Vivian Weaver, Dr. Julie Hester, and Dr. Sue Ellen
McNeil.
