The Usheka Brown, Butler, ell, Mat- ames Der- Amanda would take me off the keys, and put me on my knees un til I acted like I had some sense,” he said smiling, “some people think that humility is a weakness, but indeed it is a strength.” Washington strongly believes that God wants him to spread the gospel in a ministry of music. He said that he lives to help others. The workshop revival consisted of classes in gospel singing, choir rehearsals and each night the word of God was preached in church services. Questions about copywriting, composing, choir decorum, instrumen tal accompaniment and music ministering were answered in workshop ihe classes taught by Douglass and Washington. Com posers and choir directors from various cities throughout North Carolina taught the 150 member mass choir songs which were sung in the revival services. The week was climaxed by a mass choir concert held Cathedral Saturday night. Valjean Griggs, gospel music discjockey for WAAA Radio Station was mistress of ceremonies for the evening. The choir, made up of voices from all over the state, ministered to an audience of over 250 through song. The concert clearly showed that “When All God’s Children Get Together,” they have a time! The superb quality of the choir directors was definitely apparent, as the choir told the audience to “Make Their Decision To day,” and that “There Is Joy In Serving The Lord.” Shouts of “Praise Him,” “Hallelujah,” and “Sing Y’all,” flowed from the au dience throughout the con cert. Reverends Washington and Douglas displayed their determina tion in carrying out the gospel through song as the well known tunes, “I Belong To Jesus,” and “Someday I’ll Be Free,” rolled from their spirits. The choir received a well as they concluded with “If Ever I Needed You, Lord It’s Now.” The enthusiasm and cooperation in the choir’s performance represented the success fo the workshop revival. Minister Michael Foy said that the success of the week was truly God sent. “The devil is mad and we’re so glad the gospel went forth, fellowship was strengthened, and above all, souls were saved,” he joyfully commented. The week’s activity sparked the organization of a North Carolina State Mass Choir. Officials from the churches involved in the workshop are in the process of extending invitations to choirs all over the state to join the newly formed organization. “It’s time North Carolina was heard from, and I believe it should start right here; we aren’t just gospel singers, we’re ministers of music,’’ Douglas emotionally stated.
