Page 6-The Chronicle, Thursday, November 12, 1981 social whirl YMCA Benefits Walkathon A Success By Beverly McCarthy Staff Writer Richard Glover and Waik-a-thon officials register participants for Saturday’s hike. People of all ages showed their support for the YWCA by participating in a Walk-A-Thon held last Saturday. More than 100 people participated in the event which consisted of a 10-kilometer hike from the Patterson Avenue Branch of the YMCA to Winston Lake Swimming Pool located on Waterworks Road. The purpose of the event was to raise funds to help support youth programs sponsored by the Y. Richard Glover, director of the Patterson Avenue Y said that he expected the ac tivity to be a success. “We had set a goal of $2,400, and at this point, it looks as if we’ll go beyond that,” he said. Prizes will be awarded to those participants which turned in the most money. At the time of publication. Dr. C.B. Hauser was first place winner in the “board members” category. Hauser collected $437.50 in pledges. The groom graduated from Paisley High School and is employed at ITT Grinnell in Kernersville. He is the stepson of Mrs. Hazel Dillard Black of Winston- Salem. The couple will reside at 2902 Bon Air Avenue. After Dortch left the organiz ation. weekly dance classes were held for the group in recreation centers through out the community. An nually, the company of dancers would produce a “Dance Kaleidoscope” in order to give the dancers the experience of perform ing on stage in front of a live audience. After months of practice, the dancers became more sophisticated in their tech nique and style. After several performances, the group became known as the Otesha Dance and Music Ensemble. Members of The Otesha Dance and Music Ensemble are Kimberly Williams, Anita McFadden, Sitarian Hawkins, L. D. Barris, Rudell Young, Hashim Salih, George Glenn, Eric Mller, Terry Covington and VAnce Salih. Amatullah Saleem serves as the group’s coordinator.
