Both persons, one black and one white, seem to express the pent-up feelings and passions that most people in this society have about the increasing rate of lawlessness ? both on the street and in the courts. in Bavview News. an outstanding black weekly serving the Sap Francisco - Oakland area, a Rev. Walker, pastor of True Hope Church, stood in front of six church window panels, five of which were broken or cracked, with his hand outstretched, palm up. ? "Young black men like vultures andscavengers, are lurking on street corners and dark places in our black I communities," he wrote, "waiting \ for a heloless orev a? r I J -- ? O" " ? pack of wolves that look for a weak animal, or one that is alone, these black youths attack our black seniors and women. These youths have gotten so bold, they are attacking God's property, breaking in and stealing God's property, and polluting God's holy house." Walker, moved and outraged by these mindless atrocities of black-onblack genocide, has written a book called "In Jail With God." a compilation of neighborhood crimes. He explains: "The San Francisco Police Department is saying that blacks in the communities will not report the black criminals. The black citizens are afraid to report these things, because of fear of retaliation, or that the Police Department will not respond fast enough when crime is reported. "So, while the do-gooders are afraid and accusing one another, the black leeches are bleeding us to death. A Sandra Carson, in a letter to me, communicated the same bewilderment. I've been robbed, mugged, etc., four times; my sister five times. I can't come home anymore without hearing about someone in the neighborhood who was robbed, attacked, knifed, shot. It seems these crimes aren't for necessity as perhaps they once were. You can't train people to behave within control when they have been trained for violence. The police are never around to catch anyone. The victims aren't prepared to protect themselves. 44It is very nice to read and hear passionate speeches about how blacks and the poor are suffering among plenty. The lowest groups collect the stamps, the checks, assault a few people, go to some kind of hovel and don't watch your show, don't read the papers, don't listen to passionate speeches. But, while the Israeli blitzkrieg of , West Beirut has understandably been tHe focus of media attention, another equally unjustifiable, genocidal war is currently being waged in southern Africa: the perpetrator, the Republic of South Africa; the victims, Angolan and Namibian civilians; the premise, eliminate the guerillas of the Southwest Africa People's Organization (SWAPO). They buy beer and devil dogs. Welfare doesn't work. It's money without power. Human resources programs don't work. They require humans using the services. So food stamps, welfare, human resource clubs can't fill a space that doesn't exist." Her next statement was the whammy. She hinted strongly at a white reprisal ? the very thing that I predicted months ago on our televi?sion speciatr^Sor there are no-sohi-? tions except genocide. Mao eliminated all those who didn't flow with his values. And now in these United States, in this state, this city, we are heading in that direction. "I hear people talk, Mr. Brown. I know what thev want to have hannen. r r r And no one will lift a finger to stop THEM either. I though you would ?want to be the first to know. So,? before that day comes, and perhaps it needn't if we have enough time to make valuable changes, what can one do?" She concluded: 44How does one find the few among the many who might have a slim chance of turning their lives around? I have asked many questions in this letter, Mr. Brown. Where do I go for the answers?" ? In New-York, for example, a black is killed by another black every 12 hours. And in 1977 alone, more blacks were killed by blacks than were? killed in the entire nine-year Vietnam - War. The statistics on this self-inflicted genocide are seemingly endless. The answer? 1 repeat my commentary from the TV documentary /'Crisis: Blacks Killing Each Other:" "I hope See Page 5 Vouth Africa Israel and South Africa are following the same script. Both are unleashing their respective military might against black and brown civilians in "neutral" countries; both are waging war in violation of United Nations condemnations; both adhere to the premise that their respective invasions are necessary for "peace and security" in their religions, and both are p61i t ically supported and economically bolstered by their "godfather," the United States of America. Time nor space will permit this writer to delve into the depth of the "treacherous triangle" ? the "unholy alliance" ? which exists between the United States, Israel and South Africa. Suffice it to say that the ties that bind the three countries are extensive, encompassing the political, economic and military spheres. However, in this writer's on-going attempt to educate and inform, we will in subsequent weeks analyze in more detail this "unholy alliance." Moreover, we will explore the relationship of long standing between Zionist Israel and apartheid South Africa. Stay tuned ? you might learn something. ; ' " ^ ^ - 4 Chronicle Letters The Facts As Opposed To The Truth To The Editor: * The reelecticm of Donald Tisdale shows how divided this community is on the question of justice in the courts. It reveals how difficult it is for many whites to grasp the full L ?1 ! I _ rr A _ * psycuuiugicai eneci 01 a caste ana class system within the courts. The inconsistencies and contradictions surounding the D.A.'s tenure prove that the community is not ' serious about equal justice. Their rhetoric on the subject is just a lot of "hot air" directed at a certain class. The people of Forsyth County should not overlook the true meaning behind the black vote against Tisdale. The vote was not just a pointless gesture of a discontented few. It is a negative reflection of this community's judicial system. The vote should let everyone know that the black community does not feel that their basic rights are being granted or protected . in Tisdale's courts. It cannot be denied that Tisdale's record is full of impressive facts. However, truth in justice is more complex and multi-dimensional than ~the^ usuat list of factsr Fact is^ em pirical, while truth is interpretive. Fact is unrelated to value, it merely is. Truth is related to value and is more -humane-in naturer-The-facts may say that Tisdale is a competent and efficient administrator of justice, but the truth reveals that he sometimes uses what appears to be cruel and racist methods to achieve his goals. Blacks and the public at large must no longer tolerate the half-and-half policies that single out the black and the poor for harsher treatments within the courts. The inconsistent manner in which the law gives the r D.A. the flexibility to send black youths to jail and white youths to the library as a deterrent to crime must be changed and replaced with a fairsentencing policy. The criminal policy of excluding blacks from the jury box must be ended if peace is to prevail and if justice is to have'a single meaning fur al) citizens of ForsytK County. " Walter-Marshall Winston-Salem An Identity Problem To The Editor: In reference to the article; "Do We Discriminate Against Our Own?," I found it first to be a very muchneeded and well-written article. I am inclined to believe that we do. We as black people are yet to discover who we are. Every 15 or 25 years, we change our nationality. Once we were colored. Then we were Negroes. Later we became AfroAmericans. In the struggle for identity we became black. At last came Islam, where we reannounced ourselves as Bilalians and Black JVluslims. In all of this chaos we forgot the rich and proud heritage from which our ancestors came. Once family ties were very important. No longer can many say "blood is thicker than water." The term has become a practical joke. There is obviously a severe breakdown in the family unit, as well as our churches. As a result, we are a desolate race of people. Statistics speak for us. The rate of high school dropouts is overwhelmingly high. Unemployment and incarceration is twice as high among us as any other race.
