Hairston was recently elected Vicechairman of the WinstonSalem/Forsyth County Planning Board. Hairston, the first woman to hold such a position, is a former teacher at both Carver High School, where she taught drama, and at Oldtown Elementary School t where she?wrote riiiK Nou.fi i WO Flora Bu The Flora Buff Flower Club met at the homc^ of Mrs. Olivette Bynum of Kentucky Avenue with the President, Mrs. Hugh Smith presiding. The group received a constitution and by-laws and updated the essential changes. An active list of members was compiled and the founders of the club were honored. The club was organized in 1972 in the ?home of Alderman Vivian Burke. Programs and charter member Peggy Martin were discussed and cited. The nominating committee was selected and included Mrs. Olivette Bynum, Mrs. Peggy Martin and Mrs. Mae Phelps. Henry from West Virginia State University and Sylvia Arrington of Students Nai Music Who' Ten local students from East Forsyth Senior High School have been selected to appear in the 1983 edition of "Who's Who in Music." On June 4, the annual Flower Show will be held at the Benton Convention Center. All members were urged to enter plants in the show. Mrs. Elsworth Banner is the chairperson of the show. The Fourth District Garden Council meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the East Winston Library on Seventh Street.
